M7.5 earthquake hits Kuril Islands — Tsunami watch cancelled for Hawaii

Update 04:20 UTC The tsunami watch has been cancelled for Hawaii. Update 03:35 UTC The United States Geological Survey has revised the magnitude to 7.5. The epicenter was located around 456 km far from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Kamchatka, Russia. The earthquake occurred at 56.7 km depth. The tsunami watch is in effect for state of Hawaii. The estimated tsunami arrival time is 10:39 p.m. H.S.T. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reports that tsunami waves are forecast to be less than 0.3 meters (0.98 feet) above the tide level for the coasts of HawaiÊ»i, Japan, Johnston Atoll, Midway Island, Northern Marianas, Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, Russia and Wake Island. Russia flooding: Dam collapse kills 15

October 19, 2019: At least 15 people have died and 13 others have been missing after a dam collapse at a gold mine in Siberia. The dam, on the Seiba river in the region of Krasnoyarsk, burst after heavy rain on Saturday. Emergency workers have been searching for the missing people. According to the BBC, "People are being evacuated from a nearby village of Kuragino because of the raised water levels from the Seiba River and local flooding." Russia: Hurricane in Moscow kills 16, injures 168 others

Hurricane damage at Alexander Golod's pyramid in Istrinsky District, Moscow (CNN) May 30, 2017: At least 16 people died and 168 others injured in a hurricane that hit Russia’s capital Moscow and the adjacent areas. "Eleven people died in Moscow and five others in the suburbs were killed as high winds and rain ripped through the city on Monday, felling trees, tearing off roofs and damaging more than 2,000 cars," CNN reported quoting the Investigative Committee.

Karymsky volcanic eruption in Russia spews ash up to 3,000 meters

Karymsky volcano in Russia spewed ashes up to 3,000 meters prompting authorities to issue an "orange" code of warning for aviation. "Ash emissions at Karymsky volcano was recorded by satellites of Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT)," The Peninsula reported quoting Russia's (TASS) News Agency.

Another mysterious giant sinkhole appears in Siberia

A mysterious giant sink  has appeared in Siberia's Novokuznetsk Region measuring 20 meters in diameter and up to 30 meters in depth. The mysterious sinkhole was first spotted by Rinat Sharifullin, a local man whose house is a mere 100 meters away from where it emerged, Russian News Channel RT reported.

Kluchevsky and Zhupanovsky volcano eruptions in Russia prompt high threat to air traffic

A code of high threat to air traffic has been enforced in Kamchatka in Russian following eruptions at Kluchevsky and Zhupanovsky volcanoes. Both Kamchatka volcanoes spewed volcanic ashes simultaneously nearly five kilometers high, a source from a regional department of the Institute for studies of seismological activity told TASS.

Devastating floods prompt emergency in Russia's Siberia, over 7,600 evacuated

A state of emergency has been declared due to the devastating floods in the southern part of Siberia. Over 7,600 people have been evacuated from the dangerous areas, The Voice of Russia reported quoting Russian Emergency Situations Ministry head Vladimir Puchkov. Nearly 600 of people, including 128 children, are currently staying at temporary settlement centers. Tsunami predictions 2014 for Russia

Tsunami is predicted to hit Russia’s Far East this year, Ria Novosti reported quoting the Emergencies Ministry. Major earthquake is expected to hit off the southwestern coast of Sakhalin Island creating the Tsunami. Russia's Tsunami predictions 2014 have been done north of the epicenter of a 2007 quake, the emergency ministry added. However, the exact time is unknown and it's effect isn't clear. Shiveluch volcano eruption spews ash to 6.2 km

Shiveluch volcano eruption in Russia has spewed ash to a height of 6.2 km above sea level, The Voice of Russia reported quoting the Emergency Situations' Ministry department for Kamchatka territory. Shiveluch has been assigned the orange aviation-related colour code, the second-highest danger for airliners by the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team (KVERT). No ash falls have been registered in nearby towns and Ust-Kamchatka district. The Kamchatkan volcano Shiveluch has been periodically spewing ash from three to ten kilometers from May 2009. Shiveluch is the northernmost hyperactive volcano in Kamchatka Krai, Russia. Klyuchi is the nearest settlement from the volcano located 50 km far. The Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka has spewed ash nine kilometers high in the sky, the Kamchatkan territorial emergency situations department said. No ash fall has been reported from towns nearby. Mudslide in southern Russia kills 7: Emergency Situations Department

Mudslide in southern Russia has claimed lives of at least seven people, Emergency Situations Department said today. Heavy rainfall triggered mudslide in Derbent, a city in the North Caucasus republic of Dagestan. Around 300 houses have been flooded in the region. Karymsky volcano spews ash, local emergencies services says

Karymsky volcano in Russia has spewed ash to a height of 4 miles into the sky early Tuesday, local emergencies services said. The current Karymsky eruption poses no immediate threat to nearby settlements. However the clouds of volcanic ash could pose threat to air traffic, emergency service said. Shiveluch Volcano in Russia spewed ash up to a height of 5 km, Emergencies Ministry Department said today. The current Shiveluch eruption poses no immediate threat to nearby settlements. Ash fall from Kamchatka's largest volcano Shiveluch covers village

The Shiveluch volcano in Russia has spewed ash to a height of up to 7,000 meters, RIA Novosti reported quoting local Emergencies Ministry’s department. Local firefighters and rescuers have send text messages warning people to stay inside. Ash fall is seen in the village of Klyuchi in the Ust-Kamchatsky district and authorities have distributed gas masks, The Moscow Times reported. However according to disaster management official, Shiveluch volcano in Russia is currently not a threat to local residents. Kamchatkan volcano Shiveluch emits column of hot volcanic ash and gas

Kamchatkan volcano Shiveluch has emitted column of hot volcanic ash and gas upto 9 km above the sea level, the Kamchatkan branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences' Geophysical Service reported. A code orange alert has been issued for the Shiveluch volcano. According to Kamchatkan territorial department of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry, no ash fall has been reported from Shiveluch volcano. Moscow earthquake: First tremor in 35 years!

Russia's capital Moscow experienced its first tremor from an earthquake in 35 years today March 24, 2013. Tremor in Moscow was generated from magnitude 8.3 earthquake in Sea of Okhotsk . Russian emergency authorities had issued a tsunami warning for Sakhalin and the Kurile islands but was lifted several minutes later. At least 850 people were evacuated from buildings in Moscow. The Agency of Hydrometeorological and Environmental monitoring said very weak tremor with MMI I was felt in Moscow. Tremors in Moscow are rare. Last earthquake in Moscow was on March 4, 1977 of 4.0-magnitude quake centered in the Carpathian Mountains.
