January 17, 2020: A meteor streaked low across the sky in Puerto Rico on Friday. The National Weather Service satellite captured the meteor image at around 4:30 p.m. EST time Friday. The event was unusual as meteors are typically not visible during the day because the sky is too bright with sunlight. Many of the meteor images were posted from the San Juan and Carolina area. Hurricane Maria kills 129 people, worst natural disaster in Dominica

November 10, 2017: At least 129 people are confirmed dead due to Hurricane Maria; 55 in Puerto Rico, 57 in Dominica, 5 in the Dominican Republic, 4 in the contiguous United States, 3 in Haiti, 2 in Guadeloupe, and 3 in the United States Virgin Islands. Hurricane Maria is regarded as the worst natural disaster on record in Dominica. Maria caused catastrophic damage and a major humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico.

M 6.5 earthquake in Puerto Rico, 56 km N of Hatillo

Tropical wave causes flooding in Puerto Rico: Emergency management office

A tropical wave passing over Puerto Rico has caused heavy flooding in Puerto Rico, emergency management office said today. Tropical wave caused lightning, flooding and knocked down several tress and light posts, emergency management office added. San Juan's main international airport has recorded nearly five inches of rainfall, AFP reported. Several flights at the Luis Munoz Marin international airport were delayed. According to National Weather Service, tropical wave has moved towards Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The 1985 Puerto Rico floods claimed lives of 185 people.
