Death toll from Hurricane Matthew in Haiti rises to 339

 Hurricane Matthew damages homes in Jérémie, Haiti ( Carlos Garcia Rawlins/Reuters) At least 339 people died after Hurricane Matthew pounded Haiti including 50 people in the town of Roche-a-Bateau alone. "The eye of extremely dangerous hurricane Matthew is moving away from The Bahamas and towards the wast coast of Florida," the national hurricane center mentioned in a public advisory issued at 11:00 pm EDT October 6, 2016.

A tropical storm watch has been issued for Bonaire, Curacao and Aruba along Colombia/Venezuela border to Riohacha.

Typhoon Megi slams into Taiwan - 5 dead, damage worth $31.9 million

Typhoon Megi triggers flooding in east China's coastal city (CCTV Plus) September 29, 2016: Typhoon Megi (Typhoon Helen in Philippines) has claimed lives of a least five people and caused damage worth $31.9 million. At least four died across Taiwan, while more 625 others have been injured by the disaster. The typhoon left at least one person dead in China.

Thousand evacuated as Mt. Rinjani volcano erupts in Indonesia

More than 1,100 people have been evacuated as 2,000-metre column of ash spewed from Rinjani volcano on Lombok island. The volcano, also known as the “Child of Rinjani”, erupted without warning on Tuesday afternoon, delaying flights from airports in Lombok and nearby Bali, The Guardian reported.

Iowa: Cedar Rapids flood to become second worst in history!

September 26, 2016: Thousands residents of Cedar Rapids have left their homes Sunday as floodwaters worsened in the area. Officials have asked to evacuate those living in about 5,000 downtown homes near the river. According to the National Weather Service, flood warning is still in effect for the Cedar River at Cedar Rapids until Saturday morning. The National Weather Service expects the Cedar River to crest at 23 feet. If that crest comes to bear, this will be the second worst flood in Cedar Rapids history.

Floods and Landslides in Indonesia's Java Island kill 20

September 21, 2016: Flooding and landslide triggered by heavy rainfall have claimed lives of at least 20 people and left 14 others missing in Indonesian island of Java. The natural disasters caused massive damage in Garut district of West Java, where 17 people were found dead and 13 others were missing.

M4.6 moderate aftershock in Sindhupalchowk, Nepal

September 18, 2016: Magnitude 4.6 moderate aftershock was recorded in Sindhupalchowk at 10:57 pm Sunday night, Nepal Seismological Center mentioned. The epicenter was located near Shree Gyuldevi Temple. NSC has confirmed it as an aftershock of 2015 Gorkha earthquake . The tremor was even felt in Kathmandu valley. No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported.

North Korean floods 2016 kill 138 — Worst disaster since WWII

DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF KOREA: Flooding - Humanitarian Snapshot (OCHA) Recent floods in North Korea have claimed lives of at least 138 people and left more than 400 people missing. "The flood that resulted from the typhoon Lionrock that hit North Hamgyong province from August 29 to September 2 was the worst disaster since liberation from Japanese colonial rule in 1945," AFP reported quoting the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) news agency.

Super Typhoon Meranti makes multiple records

Super Typhoon Meranti (Typhoon Ferdie in Philippines) is the strongest tropical cyclone worldwide in 2016 and is one of three most powerful typhoons ever recorded. Super Typhoon Meranti made landfall early on Thursday near Xiamen in Fujian Province of China. 

Heavy rains, landslides kill 8 in Nepal

At least eight people have been died in landslides in different parts of Nepal . Six people died in eastern Nepal and two in western part of the country. Landslides triggered by heavy rainfall claimed lives of four people in Taplejung and two in Bhojpur districts Friday night.

M7.1 earthquake in New Zealand shakes Gisborne and Tauranga

Magnitude 7.1 severe earthquake rattled New Zealand with epicenter located 167km NNE of Gisborne and 257km E of Tauranga. According to a spokeswoman for Insurance Council New Zealand, no significant damage had been reported to the authority this morning. The quake also cut power to about 1000 homes in Eastern Bay of Plenty,  NZHerald  reported.
