Earthquake in Patna, Bihar today triggers panic

Magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook Patna and other parts of Bihar today at 11:39 pm, triggering panic among people.

The epicenter was located in Nepal and was well felt in western and central parts of Nepal. According to Nepal Seismological Center, the epicenter was near Panch Khuwa Deurali -9  of Gorkha district.

Even people of Gorakhpur, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Lucknow, Kanpur and several others of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar states of India felt the tremor. People immediately rushed out of their houses at midnight. No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported.

Atleast 4.4 aftershocks of magnitude 4 or greater have rattled Nepal since April 2015 Gorkha earthquake. Around 8,778 people died in the disaster.

This is the second aftershock of magnitude 5.5 in 2016. Earlier, magnitude 5.5 aftershock jolted Sindhupalchowk claiming life of a person in Muzaffarpur and injuring 66 in Nepal.
