An Alaska Peninsula volcano Mount Veniaminof has prompted a new alert on Thursday. According to a statement from the U.S. Geological Survey’s Alaska Volcano Observatory, the alert level at Mount Veniaminof has been raised to "advisory," and the aviation color code has gone from green to yellow.
According to a USGS guide on volcano alert levels, the current alert and aviation colour code of Mount Veniaminof volcano indicates that it is “exhibiting signs of elevated unrest above known background level.”
The seismic activity in the form of volcanic tremor that began on Thursday is continuing. "No eruptive activity is observed in web camera or satellite views from today," Alaska Volcano Observatory said.
Mount Veniaminof is an active stratovolcano located on the Alaska Peninsula is about 480 miles southwest of Anchorage and 22 miles north of Perryville. Veniaminof is one of the largest and most active volcanic centers in the Aleutian Arc and has erupted at least 13 times in the past 200 years.
