Tornado in Pomona, CA damages 17 houses

Tornado in Pomona has damaged at least 17 houses including two shops and a church.

"Tornado was about 7 to 10 miles long and a quarter to a half mile wide," News-Leader has written quoting Pomona Fire Department Assistant Chief Randall Dennis as saying.

Heavy damage is being reported on UU Highway northeast of Pomona. Emergency crews visited house to house pounding on doors to find people in their damaged homes.

The American Red Cross has set up a relief center at the Pomona Fire Station.

Emergency Management Office has urged people to beware of downed power lines and debris as emergency crews and the National Weather Service assess the damage.
