A landslide at the construction site of the Coca Codo Sinclair hydroelectric power plant in Amazon region of Ecuador has claimed lives of at least 13 people, Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa confirmed the news.
Fatalities includes three Chinese and 10 Ecuadorean workers. Others 12 injured people are having treatment at different medical centers located in Lago Agrio and Lumbaqui.
The landslide occurred around 8:30 p.m. (local time) Saturday. The landslide hit the pressure well No.1 of the powerhouse of the Coca Codo Sinclair project, Ecuador Times has written.
Coca Codo Sinclair, constructed by the Chinese firm Sinohydro, is scheduled to begin operation in February 2016 and expected to generate 36 % of the energy currently consumed in Ecuador.
Landslide in Tabete in the Chinca district of Ecuador killed 14 people in Ecuador in April last year.
