Earthquake in Iran today shakes buildings in Dubai

M 5.1 moderate earthquake in Iran today shakes buildings in Dubai, officials at UAE’s National Center of Meteorology & Seismology (NCMS) confirmed. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 156 km northeast of Dubai and 273 km northeast of Abu Dhabi. It was 6.2 miles deep. Many buildings were evacuated in Dubai. 3 missing in massive mudslide in western Colorado

At least three people have been missing in the massive mudslide that struck near the small mountain town of Colbran at around 6:15 p.m. local time Sunday. The three missing men have been identified as Clancy Nichols, his son Danny Nichols, and Wes Hawkins, USA Today reported. The area is part of the Piceance Basin, one of Colorado's largest natural gas producing areas.  The western Colorado mudslide is estimated to be 2 miles wide, 4 miles long and up to 250 feet deep in places, The Weather Channel has mentioned quoting the Mesa County Sheriff's Department.   Original post: Natural Disasters List May 27, 2014

South China floods kill 19, emergency response system activated

Heavy flooding in South China has claimed lives of at least 19 people and left 7 others missing, Xinhua News reported. Guangzhou, Zhaoqing and Qingyuan cities have been flooded, the provincial flood contorl and civil affairs authorities said. Recent flooding has affected more than 140,000 people and collapsed around 1,143 houses, flood control department added. 3 killed in avalanche on Kanchenjunga, the world's third tallest peak

Mount Kanchenjunga avalanche in Nepal has claimed lives of three people including one from India. According to the Nepalese officials, the three were swept away by an avalanche and were believed to be dead. They scaled Kanchenjunga on Sunday and were attempting to climb Yalung Kang, a sister peak. The deceased have been identified as Temba Sherpa and Dawa Wangju Sherpa of Taamku VDC-5, Taplejung, Nepal and Chanda Gayen of West Bengal, India. Gayen is known as the first civilian woman from West Bengal to climb Mount Everest. The single deadliest avalanche ever on the world's highest peak, Mount Everest had claimed lives of at least 15 people a few weeks ago. At least five mountaineers were killed in an avalanche while returning from the peak of Mt Kanchenjunga a year ago. Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world located in Nepal. Violent storm crash in New Mexico kills 6

A violent storm system in New Mexico has claimed lives of six people in the collision. Vehicles crash occurred in Hidalgo County near the New Mexico-Arizona border in United States. NOAA publishes 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has published the 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook on March 22. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts three to six hurricanes developing between June 1 and the end of November. The Atlantic hurricane region includes the North Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. Next week, May 25-31, is National Hurricane Preparedness Week. Violent storms in France claim 2 lives

Violent storms in France have claimed lives of at least two people and left tens of thousands without electricity, The Local reported. Fatalities are from Aveyron and the town of Bozouls. The sixty-old woman was killed in the Dordogne town of Bira, when the roof of a barn collapsed. A passenger in the campervan was killed when a tree was blown over in gale force winds in the town of Bozouls, The Local added quoting the Europe1 radio. Bay of Bengal earthquake shakes Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Delhi – 1 killed, 50 injured

Worst flooding in 120 years in Bosnia and Serbia kill 20

Record flooding in the Balkans has claimed lives of at least 20 people in Serbia and Bosnia and forced tens of thousands to flee their homes. It is believed to be the worst flooding since records began 120 years ago, The Associated Press has reported quoting Goran Mihajlovic from Serbia’s Weather Center. Flooding in Bosnia and Herzegovina claimed lives of 12 people. In Serbia, more than 15,000 people have been evacuated from the flood-hit regions. At least 8 people died in Serbia. The Sava river burst its banks in towns to the west of Belgrade, the capital and largest city of Serbia. European Union countries have sent equipment and emergency crews in flood disaster areas. Rain-triggered landslide in Hunan, China kills 1

Rain-triggered landslide in Jinwutang Township in Hunan province of China has claimed life of a person, Xinhua News Agency reported. According to the Sanghai Daily, the rainstorms have also disrupted traffic, power and telecommunications in 10 townships.  Heavy rains started to hit Suining County at 3 a.m. Saturday, with precipitation in one township hitting 186 mm by noon. Flash flooding in Afghanistan kills 3, washes away hundreds of houses

Flash flooding in Afghanistan has claimed lives of at least three people, Pajhwok Afghan News reported. Fatalities are from  Baghlan, Bamyan and Badakhshan provinces of Afghanistan. Flash floods washed away hundreds of houses in three different provinces. Disaster relief aid have been send to the area, Pajhwok Afghan News reported quoting The Afghanistan Natural Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA). According to the Governor of Badakhshan, more than 2,500 people were killed and more than 300 homes were buried under rocks and mud due to a landslide in northern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan some days earlier. Afghanistan landslide 2014 kills 2,500, buries more than 300 homes

Update 17:40 UTC This is what TOLOnews is reporting: "According to the Governor of Badakhshan, more than 2,500 people have been killed and more than 300 homes are buried under rocks and mud due to a landslide in northern Badakhshan province."
