China hit by worst floods in 50 years

The worst floods in 50 years in Western China have claimed lives of seven people and left 48 missing.

Several classes in rural schools have been suspended.

Recent rain triggered natural calamities have affected 30,000 people and damaged over 5,000 houses in Western China.

At least 2,000 people were rescued yesterday from highway tunnel between Dujiangyan and Wenchuan.

Similarly landslide in Sichuan province of China claimed lives of at least 12 yesterday.

Mudslides and flooding are common natural disasters in mountainous areas of China.
