Landslide, Flooding in Hong Kong

Heavy rainstorm has caused landslide and flooding in Hong Kong, Xinhua reported.

The Hong Kong Observatory issued the Black rainstorm warning signal at around 4 a.m. local time which lasted for more than five hours. Black rainstorm warning which was issued for the first time in almost three years is the most severe of its three rain-alert signals in Hong Kong.

About 200 millimetres of rainfall was recorded in Tseung Kwan O, The Hong Kong Observatory said.

A total of 24 flooding reports and seven landslides incidents were reported in Hong Kong.

Following Police and the Fire Services Department, floods were reported in Mong Kok, Kwun Tong, Po Lam, Tin Shui Wai and Sai Kung. Yuen Long is expected to be worst hit by floods.

Trading in the Hong Kong stock market were also delayed due to the black rain storm warning, Hong Kong based The Standard reported.

Hong Kong have a reasonable degree of flood protection but the inadequacy of the drainage system constructed long ago has caused serious flooding in Hong Kong, Drainage Service Department of Hong Kong mentions in its website.

Hail storm in Chennai: 3rd time in 5 years

Hail storm hit Ayanavaram, Chennai between 1.30pm and 1.45pm Friday afternoon. Nungambakkam recorded 3.5cm of rain and Meenambakkam 1.1cm, India Meteorological Department said.
