M 2.7 weak earthquake hits South Korea today, The Korea Meteorological Administration mentions on its Website.
Earthquake in South Korea today occurred at 3:39 a.m.
According to the South Korea News, the quake's epicenter was located 42 kilometers off the coast of Geomun Island in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province.

Serious earthquakes are rare in South Korea.
Korea is known as the earthquake free country and has countable quakes listed in South Korea earthquake history. Report by National Emergency management Agency has shown that if an earthquake in South Korea with the magnitude of 7 occurs, it could kill more than 50,000 and injure more than 620,000 people!
Korean Peninsula is geologically stable and there are no active volcanoes and there have been no strong earthquakes. Looking earthquake trends, earthquake in Korean Peninsula with magnitude 3 or greater than three occurs about 9 times per year.
