Typhoon Bavi forms near Taiwan, forecast to pass South Korea this week

 August 23, 2020: Typhoon Bavi has developed near Taiwan over waters some 200 kilometers south-southeast of Taipei and is predicted to pass South Korea this week. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, Typhoon Bavi is forecast to reach Jeju Island on Wednesday, making landfall near Mokpo, South Jeolla Province, at around 3 a.m. Typhoon Bavi is expected to gradually weaken after passing through the northeast of Pyongyang on Friday afternoon.

M3.4 earthquake in South Korea — Felt as far as Busan, Ulsan and Daegu

October 27, 2019: Magnitude 3.4 light earthquake has been recorded in South Korea at 03:37 pm today, Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) reported. The earthquake occurred in Changnyeong county in South Gyeongsang Province. The epicenter was located at 10 km depth. The tremor was felt as far as Busan, Ulsan and Daegu. Earthquake in Ulsan, South Korea today measures 5.0

A 5.0-magnitude earthquake has been recorded today in South Korea with epicenter located 52 km off the southeastern port city of Ulsan at 8:33 p.m, Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) reported. Tremor was well felt in Hokō, Pusan, Taegu and Waegwan area of South Korea. An apartment in Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province, was evacuated due to the earthquake, The Korea Times reported. The Ministry of Public Safety and Security confirmed no causalities or damage from earthquake in Ulsan, South Korea today.

South Korea flood claims 4

Flooding in South Korea has claimed lives of at least four people. Heavy rainfall has caused flooding and mudslides in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province and Gangwon Province of South Korea. Eight primary and secondary schools in Gyeonggi Province have been closed due to the overflowing Gonjiam Stream, Chosun Ilbo reported. Flood waters also swept away over 40 vehicles in a parking lot in the Tan Stream. In neighbouring North Korea, floods have left 8 dead or missing. According to the Korean Central News Agency, North Korea flood has caused huge flood damage in central part of the country leading to five deaths and three missing. The South Korean Red Cross has also provided US$ 100,000 flood aid to the North Korea flood victims. The 2011 South Korea flood had claimed lives of at least 69 people. Earthquake felt in Seoul, South Korea

Moderate earthquake with magnitude 4.8 hit along the coast of North and South Korea (Yellow Sea) today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 76km WSW of Ongjin. It was 8.4 miles deep. Tremor was felt as far as Seoul, South Korea. Seoul is the capital and largest metropolis of South Korea. Magnitude 2.7 earthquake hit South Korea in April 2013. Forest fire in South Korea kills 1

Forest fire in South Korea has killed one and injured 14 others. Natural disaster occurred in Pohang region of South Korea.  Forest fire in Pohang has killed one Korean and injured 14 others. Fire destroyed about 53 houses. Fire has burned five hectares of residential areas. More than 2,000 firefighters, soldiers and rescue employees are struggling to control the blaze. Following National Rescue Services, fire displaced more than a hundred people. Another forest fire in Ulsan, southeast of Seoul has injured three people.
