  • Flooding in Mindanao, Philippines
    -Three killed and 2 others missing due to flooding disaster in Mindanao region of Philippines.
    -Fatalities are from Misamis Oriental and San Miguel village in Tagum City.
    -Floods have affected around 27,000 people in Davao del Norte, ComVal, and some villages in Davao City.
    -Roads and bridges in Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental were also impassable.
    -Davao city has declared 15 areas under a state of calamity (emergency) granting PHP 53.5 million calamity funds. Recent natural disaster floods in Davao city killed one and displaced 8,000 others so far (Photo: Aerial photo of flooding near Gem Village in Brgy. Maa, Davao City; Bong Go).

  • Heavy storms in Abrantes, Portugal
    -Storm in Abrantes, Portugal killed one and injured 21 others across Sintra-Cascais Natural Park.
    -Storm in Portugal also displaced 46 people.
    -Thirteen flights departing from Porto and Lisbon airports were cancelled.
    -The national monuments of Palacio da Pena, Castelo dos Mouros and the Convento dos Capuchos are temporary closed.
    -Heavy rain and adverse weather is forecast by Portuguese Met Office in Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra and Leiria districts in northern Portugal.

  • M 5.8 strong earthquake in South Atlantic Ocean (@ 15 km depth) with epicenter located 112 km ENE from Recife. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Itamaraca, Pitimbu, Itapissuma, Caapora, Paulista, Igarassu, Recife, Joao Pessoa, Jaboatao dos Guararapes, Jaboatao and Natal.

  • M 5.9 strong earthquake in Northern Sumatra, Indonesia (@ 17 km depth) with epicenter located 34 km SSW of Reuleuet. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Sigli, Reuleuet, Bireun, Meulaboh, Lhokseumawe, Banda Aceh, Takengon, Langsa and Sabang.

    -Tremor was felt strongly in the capital Banda Aceh.
  • M 5.3 moderate earthquake in Eastern Iran (@ 32 km depth) with epicenter located 38 km ENE of Kerman. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of  Bardsir, Zarand, Ravar and Kerman.

  • M 3.3 weak shallow earthquake in Bosnia and Herzegovina (@ 2 km depth) with epicenter located just 5 km NW Bihac. Weak tremor will have felt as far as Zagreb.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Bolivia (Madre de Dios), Brazil (Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq (Shatt al Arab and Tigris), Kenya (Tana), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile, White Nile), Syria (Euphrates), Tanzania.


Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Fuego, Santiago, Poas, Reventador, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Raung, Erta Ale, Paluweh, Gamalama, Batu Tara, Sakurajima, Manam, Ulawun, Tolbachik and Kilauea volcano.
  • Scientists have warned that Mount Tongariro and Mt Ruapehu in New Zealand may erupt soon. A blockage is believed to be underneath the Ruapehu volcano which could burst and erupt without warning.


Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Tropical Cyclone Garry
    -As of 12:00 UTC, TC Garry was located 200 nm north-northwest of Pago Pago, American Samoa.
    -Samoa has issued warnings for the whole country.
    -Cyclone Garry is forecast to pass from 96 km of Tutuila, the main American Samoan island.
    -Samoa Cyclone 'Evan' killed several people in December 2012.
  • Tropical Cyclone Oswald
    -As of 12:00 UTC, TC Oswald was located 90 nm east-northeast of Mornington Island, Australia.
    -Oswald, a category 1 cyclone was formed in the southeastern Gulf of Carpentaria.
    -A cyclone warning is in place for coastal communities from Karumba to the tip of Cape York, including Mornington Island. Oswald is forecast to make landfall between about Weipa and Kowanyama.

  • Death toll from Jakarta floods has risen to 26 people. Natural disaster floods displaced more than 100,000 people.
  • New research has shown that the Earth was hit by gamma ray burst from space in eighth century. Gamma ray bursts may have caused by the cataclysmic collision of two black holes or neutron stars.
