  • Flooding in Sulawesi, Indonesia
    -Death toll from Sulawesi, Indonesia flood has risen to 13. Four people are still missing.
    -Landslide blocked a river in Batanguru and caused it to burst over its banks and wash away seven houses.
    -Personnel and relief assistance from West Sulawesi disaster mitigation together with officials from the provincial social affairs office are in the disaster area.
    -Some days ago, flooding hit Deli Serdang, Serdang Bedagai and Mandailing Natal Deli districts of Northern Sumatra. In Aceh the floods hit Bireun district.

  • Tornado in Tasmania, Australia
    -A tornado touched down in Hobart, Tasmania. Strong winds and heavy rain reported in New Norfolk, Hobart, Richmond, Ross, Swansea and Orford.
    -Hailstorm also hit western Sydney. Storm even affected Newcastle, Gosford, Cessnock, Maitland, Liverpool, Penrith and Parramatta.
    -Sheffield Shield match between Tasmania and Queensland was also delayed.

  • M 5.3 moderate shallow earthquake in Nias Region, Indonesia (@ 4 km depth) with epicenter located 172 km SW of Sibolga. Weak shaking will have felt as far as Padangsidempuan,  Sinabang and Kabanjahe.

  • M 3.2 weak shallow earthquake in Greater Los Angeles Area, California with epicenter located 6 km SE from Newhall. It will have well felt by the people of San Fernando, Pacoima, Santa Clarita, Canoga Park, Northridge, Reseda, Simi Valley, Granada Hills and Valencia.

  • M 5.2 moderate earthquake near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan (@ 40 km depth) with epicenter located 48 km SE of Iwaki. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Kitaibaraki, Takahagi, Hitachi, Iwaki, Mito, Sendai, Saitama, Narita and Tokyo.

    -Yellow Alert is in effect due to high temperatures in Buenos Aires.
    -Heat wave caused a massive blackout in Buenos Aires with an estimated three million people suffering lack of power.
  • The American Red Cross’s Hurricane App has ranked in the top three downloads in the Apple App Store (along with YouTube and Flashlight by iHandy). It had 400,000 downloads during the week Hurricane Sandy swept the East Coast of the US.
  • According to climate scientists, temperature will rise eight degrees Fahrenheit by 2100, resulting in higher seas, disappearing coastlines and more severe droughts, floods and other destructive weather and hazards.
