  • Flooding in Bulgaria
    -High winds, heavy rainfall and flooding reported in Bulgaria. One killed in the Danube city of Ruse.
    -The hardest hit by the flood water was the regions of Blagoevgrad, Western Bulgaria, Haskovo, Southern Bulgaria, and Burgas on the Black Sea coast.
    -The southern Bulgarian municipality of Nedelino has declared a state of emergency.
    -Bulgaria floods also affected capital Sofia.
    -Code Red is declared in the districts of Kardzhali and Haskovo, while Code Orange for the entire East Bulgaria.
    -The 2005 European floods hit mainly Romania, Switzerland, Austria and Germany, as well as several other countries in Central Europe and Eastern Europe. Floods killed 20 in Bulgaria (Photo by Sofia Photo Agency).

  • M 5.6 moderate earthquake in Molucca Sea (@ 25 km depth) with epicenter located 135 km SE of Modayag. Weak shaking of MMI III will have felt by the people of Tondano, Tomohon, Bitung, Laikit, Laikit II (Dimembe) and Manado.

  • M 3.9 light shallow earthquake in Arkansas (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 9 km SW of Parkin. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Forrest City, Marion, West Memphis, Collierville, Nesbit, Southaven and Wynne.

  • M 2.9 minor earthquake in North Carolina (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 11 km SSE of West Marion. Weak shaking of MMI II will have felt by the people of Morganton, Marion, Old Fort, Nebo, Rutherfordton, Hendersonville and Asheville.

  • M 3.4 weak shallow earthquake in Arizona (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 36 km NNE of Morenci. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Show Low and Silver City (New Mexico).

  • M 3.9 light earthquake in Central California (@ 9 km depth) with epicenter located 8 km NW from Pinnacles. It will have well felt by the people of Soledad, Gonzales, Hollister, Salinas and Carmel. Click for detail report on earthquake near Santa Clarita which was widely felt across Los Angeles.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Argentina, Australia (Murray and Darling), Brazil (Tocantins and Ana Doce Ponte Nova), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong, Xi Jiang and Huang He), Colombia (Japura), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Lualaba), Ethiopia, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Iraq (Tigris), Japan, Malaysia, Nigeria (Niger and Benue), Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Philippines, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan (White Nile and Blue Nile), Tajikistan, United States (Mississippi) and Venezuela (Orinoco).
  • Flash flood in Buenos Aires, Argentina
    -Heavy rainfall caused flash flood in Argentina's capital Buenos Aires. One killed in the flood.
    -More than a thousand people evacauted.
    -Nearly 5 inches (130 millimeters) of rain fell in just a few hours Monday morning.
    -Several flights grounded due to storm in Buenos Aires. In Buenos Aires, flooding occurs on average about twice per year.

Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Propocatepetl, Fuego, Reventador, Villarrica, Stromboli, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Erta Ale, Marapi, Semeru, Paluweh, Gamalama, Lokon-Empung, Sakurajima, Ulawun, Yasur, Ambrym, Kizimen, Shiveluch and Kilauea volcano. 
  • Costa Rica/Poas recent volcanic activity
    -Poas volcano crater ejected mud and ash more than 500 meters into the air.
    -Volcanic ashes traveled hundreds of meters around the national park. However Poás Volcano National Park will remain open to tourists.



Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Hurricane Sandy
    -As of 15:00 UTC, hurricane sandy was located 330 km se of Atlantic City New Jersey and 415 km SSE of New York City.
    -Sandy is expected to bring life-threatening storm surge and coastal hurricane winds plus heavy appalachian snows.
    -Hurricane Sandy killed 67 people including 51 in Haiti.
    -Sandy destroyed large ocean pier in the Maryland beach resort of Ocean City. Click for live report on Hurrican Sandy.
  • Tropical Storm Son-tinh
    -As of 15:00 UTC, TS Son-tinh was located 60 nm east-northeast of hanoi, Vietnam.
    -Five people are still reported to be missing after Typhoon Son-Tinh sank their boat in the South China Sea near the city of Sanya.
    -Tropical storm Son-Tinh (local name Ofel) killed 20 people in Philippines.
  • Tropical Cyclone Two
    -As of 15:00 UTC, Tc Two was located 165 nm northeast of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

  • Sandstorms in UAE-
    -Strong winds and sandstorms reported in Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
    -Heavy lightning and hail storms also reported from some of the UAE islands in the Arabian Gulf.
  • Wildfire in South Carolina, USA
    -Wildfire reported at 4060 Cope Road, between the towns of Norway and Cope.
