  • Typhoon Saola (Gener)

    Typhoon Saola (Gener): Five day forecast map
    -Four killed and thousands displaced after typhoon Saola hit the sea near northernmost Luzon.
    -About 28,631 people affected by Typhoon Saola in Metro Manila, southern Luzon, central Philippines, and parts of Mindanao.
    -More than 2,413 individuals are taking shelters in evacuation centers.
    -Public storm warning signal No. 2 issued over Cagayan, Calayan Group of Islands, Babuyan Group of Islands, and Batanes Group of Islands in northern Luzon and signal No. 1 issued for Isabela, Kalinga and Apayao.
    -At 4:00 p.m. (local time), Saola was located 260 km East of Basco, Batanes. It is forecast to move North Northwest at 7 kph.
    -Saola is the seventh of 20 storms and typhoons to hit the Philippines this year which is named after a rare mammal found in Vietnam and Laos.
    Update
    -Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS) message: Red Tropical Cyclone alert in China for SAOLA-12 from 28/07/2012 06:00 UTC to 30/07/2012 12:00 UTC.
    -The storm is forecast to have its greatest impact on Taiwan on Wednesday and Thursday.

  • M 3.1 weak shallow earthquake in Oklahoma (@ 15 km depth) with epicenter located just 6 km ESE from Meeker. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Johnson, Prague, Shawnee and Oklahoma City.

  • M 4.4 moderate shallow earthquake in Bosnia And Herzegovina (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located just 6 km NNW of Zenica. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Travnik, Novi Travnik and Kakanj.

  • M 4.8 moderate earthquake near the Coast of Ecuador (@ 57 km depth) with epicenter located 36 km NNE of Santa Elena. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of La Libertad, Salinas, Pedro Carbo, Jipijapa, Samborondón and Guayaquil.

  • M 3.1 weak shallow earthquake in Poland (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located just 6 km W Ustron. It will have well felt by the people of Bielsko-biala.

Recent Flash Floods
Ongoing Major Flash Floods: Afghanistan (River Amu Darya), Australia (River Darling), Botswana (Selinda), Brazil (River Tocantins), China (River Mekong and River Huang),  Ethiopia, Honduras, Indonesia, Madagascar, Mali, Nicaragua (River San Juan), Nigeria (Benue), Pakistan (River Indus), Philippines, Sudan (River Blue Nile), Tanzania (River White Nile) and United States (River Rio Grande).
  • Flash floods in Costa Rica
    -One killed and four other reported to be missing in a flash floods caused by heavy rainfall in 
    central and eastern Costa Rica.
    -More than 1,500 people are living in rescue shelters.
    -A yellow alert declared  in various parts of Cartago. A yellow flood alert is also in effect for parts of Limon.

Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Tropical Storm Saola
    -As of 01:00 UTC, 
    Tropical Storm (TS) 10w (Saola) was located approximately 355 nm south- southeast of Taipei, Taiwan.
    -Saola is expected to bring heavy rain around Taiwan between July 30 and August 3. Forecast map shows Saola intensifying from Category 2 to Category 3 on August 2.
  • Tropical Storm Damrey
    -As of 01:00 UTC, Tropical storm 11w (Damrey) was located approximately 200 nm east-northeast of iwo-to, Japan.
    -Damrey is forecast to weaken to a tropical depression on August 2 as it enters Shanghai, China.

Natural Disaster News
  • Wildfire in Earlsboro, Oklahoma
    -About 30 homes evacuated due to wildfire due northwest of Earlsboro in Pottawatomie County.
    -Fire burned 1,300 acres.  Another wildfire near Cooperton still continues which has burned 28,000 acres so far.
