Recent Natural Disasters

  • Severe storms in Smokies, United States
    -Two killed and several others injured in severe storms in Great Smoky Mountains National Park area.
    -A woman died at Abrams Creek campground and a man killed near the Townsend Wye.
    -Many roads and trails in the Smokies reported to be closed including Little River and Laurel Creek road.
    -Red Cross shelter post established in Townsend.
    -Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a United States National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site

  • M 4.5 moderate deep earthquake in Romania (@ 109 km depth) today with epicenter located 11 km WSW of Nereju. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Nehoiu, Covasna, Focsani and as far as Cahul (Moldova).

Flooding List
  • Flooding in Boulder County, Colorado
    -Flooding and mudslides occurred near Logan Mill Road, Nancy Mine Road and Wall Street.
    -Wall Street and Gold Run Road reported to be closed.
    -Flash flood warning issued for the areas of Wallstreet, Crisman, Sunshine, Summerville, Salina and Gold Hill.
    -Heavy rainfall forecast for Fourmile area.
  • Flooding in Derbyshire, England
    -Heavy rainfall and flash flood caused damage to Breadsall, Beeley and Glutton Bridge.
    -A primary school in Ockbrook was immediately evacuated after the disaster.
    Update
    Several tourist from England, Germany, Switzerland, New York and Hong Kong rescued after severe flooding and a landslide hit Isle of Mull area of Scotland. However no injury reported.

Tropical Cyclone List
  • Tropical Storm Daniel
    -As of 02:00 UTC, TS Daniel was located 985 km S of the southern tip of Baja California.
    -Daniel is expected to become a hurricane today (Friday).

Natural Disaster News
  • Waldo Canyon fire in Southern Colorado
    -Waldo Canyon fire is now 95 percent contained.
    -William and Barbara Everett are two persons who lost their life in this fire.
  • Wildfire in Lake Chelan State Park
    -Evacuation order issued after wildfire about 12 miles southwest of Lake Chelan State Park.
    -The Chelan fire is about 10% contained.
    -No damage or injury reported.
  • Wildfire in Des Moines, United States
    -New Wildfire in Des Moines burned 60-80 acres.
    -Fire is burning in pinon, juniper and grasses about 25 miles southwest of Capulín.
