  • Flooding in Krasnodar, Russia

    -At least 103 people died in massive flooding caused after heavy rainfall in Krasnodar Territory of Russia.
    -Gelendzhik is the worst flood hit area where five people received electric shock and died after a transformer fell on the ground. Five other bodies were found in debris.
    -More than 300 houses reported to be flooded.
    -Seventeen power substations are temporarily closed in Southern Russia due to which around 20,000 people are said to be without electricity. Click for detail report on this Russian flood.

    -More than 170 flood alerts issued for South East, Wales and Scotland including a red warning for  Plymouth and Exeter area
    -The south Pennines and north Midlands, including the areas around Manchester, Sheffield, North Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire are among the worst hit by flood from several days.
    -Six people were rescued from a flooded caravan park in North Yorkshire. According to the Environment Agency in England, 94 homes were flooded yesterday. Flooding and landslips even caused delays on major rail routes.
    -Following Met Office, heaviest rainfall expected over the Borders, Lothians and Fife of Scotland early today.
    -Yesterday 14 tourists were rescued after flash floods destroyed two bridges in Isle of Mull area of Scotland.
    -MFEST music festival in Leeds in central England also cancelled due to bad weather.
    -Floods are the most common form of natural disaster in the United Kingdom.

    -President Obama declared Northland flooding a federal disaster.
    -Minnesota counties will now get federal disaster aid to recover the cost of severe damage caused by storm and floods in Duluth area.

  • Hurricane Daniel
    -As of 03:00 UTC , Hurricane Daniel was located 1205 km SW of the southern tip of Baja California.
    -According to The National Hurricane Center, Daniel is now a Category 1 hurricane but posed no threat to land.
    -Daniel is the third hurricane of the eastern North Pacific season.

    -The most powerful solar storm erupted yesterday (of this summer) and registered as a class X1.1 solar flare
    -In March, the sun fired off an intense X5.4-class solar flare.
    -X-class solar flares can endanger spacecraft and astronauts in orbit, interfere with satellite signals, as well as damage power lines and other infrastructure on the ground.
  • Wildfire in Owen County, Indiana
    -Wildfire burned about 27 acres at McCormick's Creek State Park in Owen County.
    -No injury reported.
