Recent Natural Disasters
  • Flooding in Beijing, China
    Beijing_floods_rescue_effort_recent_natural_disasters
    Soldiers evacuating students in Fangshan District of Beijing; Source Xinhua
    -At least 14 people reported to be killed due to flash floods in northern and southwestern China in last two days.
    -More than 5,000 people were evacuated to the safer place. About 350 students and 40 teachers were rescued in Fangshan district. A river in Fangshan overflowed its banks.
    -It is believed to be the heaviest rain in 61 years in Beijing.
    -More than 500 flights were cancelled due to heavy rainfall in Beijing.
    -Orange rainstorm alert warning issued. Rain is forecast to last over 20 hours.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake in Western Iran (@ 27 km depth) with epicenter located 55 km SSW of Fereydunshahr. It will have well felt by the people of Farsan, Masjed Soleyman and Khvansar.

  • M 5.0 moderate earthquake in Central Turkey (@ 8 km depth) with epicenter located 10 km SW of Andirin. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Kadirli, Kozan and Bahce.

  • M 3.3 weak earthquake in Iraq (@ 7 km depth) with epicenter located 18 km N Al-mawsil. It will have well felt by the people of Tall kayf and Al-mawsil.

  • M 5.1 moderate earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan Region 9@ 58 km depth) with epicenter located 131 km WSW from Kushiro. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Obihiro, Sapporo and Asahikawa.

  • Flooding in British Columbia, Canada
    -A state of emergency declared in Quesnel B.C due to flash floods.
    -Landslide diaster reported in Baker Creek.
  • Flooding in Hickory, North Carolina
    -Heavy rainfall and thunderstorm reported in Icard, Longview and Hickory area.
    -Flash floods caused in Hickory, Connelly Springs, Granite Falls, Icard, Longview, Rutherford College and St. Stephens.
  • Flooding in Naji, Fiji
    -Heavy rainfall along with flash floods expected in Nadi area today and tomorrow.
    -Two fisherman are reported to be missing in Beqa.

Tropical Cyclone List
  • Tropical Storm Vicente
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Vicente was located  180 nm south-southeast of Hong Kong.
    -Tropical storm Vicente is forecast to strike China at about 12:00 GMT on 23 July.

Natural Disaster News
  • Wildfire in Norden and Springview, Nebraska
    -Several people evacuated from Norden and Springview in Nebraska.
    -At least four or five structures in the town of Norden were destroyed.
  • Dust storm in Phoenix, Arizona
    -Heavy dust storms reported in Scottsdale, Gilbert, Mesa, Apache Junction, Santan Valley, Chandler, Casa Grande and downtown Phoenix area.
  • Wildfire in Bailey, Colorado
    -New wildfire reported near Bailey in Park County.
    -Fire has burned four acres so far.
