Recent Natural Disasters
  • Landslides in British Columbia, Canada
    -Four people reported to be missing in a landslide in Johnson's Landing, Gar Creek region of BC.
    -Multiple helicopters, two search-dog teams, underwater recovery divers, a landslide expert and a geotechnician are working in the disaster area to search the victims.
    -An emergency operations center is being set up in the city of Nelson.
  • Flooding in China
    -Heavy rainfall caused flooding in central Hubei province of China.
    -Significant rise in the level of Yangtze and Jialing rivers.
    Update
    At least 10 people reported to be killed in Hubei floods.

  • M 3.1 weak shallow earthquake in Poland (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 3 km SW Orzesze. It will have well felt by the people of Rybnik.

  • M 2.6 weak shallow earthquake in Portugal (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 6 km NW Redondo. It will have well felt by the people of Évora and Badajoz.

  • M 2.7 weak shallow earthquake in Northern Texas (@ 5 k depth) with epicenter located 13 km ESE of Pecan Plantation. It will have well felt by the people of Cleburne, Burleson, Crowley, Alvarado, Granbury, Joshua and Keene.

  • M 4.9 moderate deep earthquake in Minahasa, Sulawesi, Indonesia (@ 192 km depth) with epicenter located 18 km W of Molibagu. Weak shaking will have felt by the people of Gorontalo, Tomohon and Tondano.

  • M4.8 moderate earthquake in South Sandwich Islands Region with epicenter located 48 km NNW of Visokoi Island. It will just faintly felt in the coastal region.

  •  Kamchatka/Sheveluch recent volcanic activity
    -Moderate explosive activity of the volcano continues with current Aviation Color Code Orange.
    -Following Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team, plumes rose up to 14,700 ft.
  • Guatemala/Santiaguito recent volcanic activity
    -Fine ash and steam ejected from Santiaguito volcano.

Flooding List
  • Flooding and landslides in Bangladesh
    -At least 131 people killed in different natural disaster incidents in Bangladesh this month.
    -Most of the deaths were caused by landslides and floods.
    -Massive landslide and floods in Bangladesh caused widespread damage in three southeastern districts of Chittagong, Cox's Bazaar and Bandarban.
  • Flooding in Southern California
    -A flash flood watch issued for the Mountains of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties and for the Apple Lucerne and Coachella valleys.

  • Hurricane Emilia
    -As of 03:00 UTC, Hurricane Emilia was located 1655 km WSW of the southern tip of Baja California.
    -Emilia is a category one hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale.
  • Tropical Storm Fabio
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Fabio was located 755 km SW of Manzanillo, Mexico and about 1005 km S of the southern tip of Baja California.
    -Fabio is forecast to become a hurricane by Friday night or Saturday.

Natural Disaster News
  • Powerful Solar Flare hit Earth
    -According to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, X-class sun storm hit earth Yesterday (Thursday).
    -Active Region 1520 as named by NASA officials discharged the flare around 12:50 p.m. EDT which blocked high-frequency radio communication in the Northern Hemisphere.
    -The last solar storm hit earth on July 6 which was of intensity M 5.6.
  • Earthquake rumor in Los Angeles
    -The rumor predicts that a major earthquake is about to hit the Los Angeles area today.
    -However there appears to be no specific evidence about the source of the earthquake rumor.
    -Similar rumor spread via the internet claiming that Caltech was predicting a major L.A. quake in the next 24-72 hours on April 13, 2010.
    -Los Angeles is the most populous city in the state of California, and the second most populous in the United States of America, after New York City.
