Tropical Cyclone Nuri makes landfall in China

June 14, 2020: Tropical Cyclone Nuri made landfall in southern China on Sunday morning becoming the first tropical cyclone to make landfall in China this year. According to the Chinese Meteorological Administration, Tropical Cyclone Nuri landed on Hailing Island in Yangjiang City at about 8:50am (00:50 GMT) on Sunday. Nuri landed as a tropical storm, packing winds of 82.8km/h (51.4 mph) near its centre. Guangdong had launched the Level IV emergency response (lowest on scale) on Friday evening as Nuri developed in the South China Sea. According to the Hong Kong Observatory, as of 11am today, Tropical Cyclone Nuri was about 260km west-southwest of the city and was expected to move northwest and weaken gradually. Tropical Storm Nuri (Butchoy) was formed on the eastern coast of the Philippines. Nuri is the second storm of the typhoon season in the West Pacific.

Flood in Turkey's capital Ankara kills 1, damages 250 houses

June 14, 2020: Recent flooding in Ankara, the capital city of Turkey has claimed lives of one people and damaged more than 250 houses. A man trying to clean his flooded barbershop died after he got electrocuted due to a short circuit caused by water damage. According to Ankara mayor Mansur Yavas, the municipality has deployed 840 personnel and 430 vehicles to help with flood clean up and repair operations. The country's meteorological agency has forecast more heavy rain and thunderstorms over central Anatolia on June 15, 2020.

NEPAL: Landslide in Kushma kills 9

June 14, 2020: The landslide in Kushma, the Parbat district headquarters in western Nepal , has claimed lives of at least nine people as of today. The landslide disaster occurred on Saturday night at Kushma Municipality Ward No. 3, in Durlung, Parbat. Three bodies were recovered on the same day while six additional bodies have been dug out today. One child, a 13-year-old boy, is still said to be missing. The personnel of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Army have been engaged in searching the missing body. Heavy rainfall triggered landslide in Kusma.

Dust storm, heavy rain cause damage in Delhi and Noida

June 10, 2020: Dust storm and heavy rainfall lashed Delhi and Greater Noida today, uprooting trees, damaging vehicles and bringing down billboards. Traffic snarls were reported on the Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) Highway as well as on the Kalindi Kunj Road. Several tress were uprooted and cars were damaged in Noida's Sector 41. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) , thunderstorm with light rain accompanied with gusty winds of the speed of 40-50 kmph occurred over Delhi-NCR.  The Gautam Buddh Nagar traffic police tweeted that the traffic was disrupted due to felling of trees on the Kalindi Kunj road going from Delhi to Noida. The change in the weather has been caused by a cyclonic circulation over north Rajasthan and through running from North Pakistan to low-pressure area over the Bay of  Bengal .

New Cyclone 'Gati' to be formed in Bay of Bengal

June 10, 2020: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a new cyclone 'Gati' to develop over the Bay of Bengal this week.  A low pressure area is forecast to form somewhere near the coast of Myanmar. However, it is important to note that not all low pressure areas intensity into cyclones. If the weather disturbance reaches a certain level, it would be named as Cyclone Gati.  India has already experienced two cyclones this year. The Cyclone Amphan hit west Bengal in late May and another cyclone Nisarga hit the coast of Maharastra near Mumbai in early June.

Iran Earthquake 2020: Magnitude 5.7 earthquake felt in Qatar and Bahrain

June 9, 2020: Magnitude 5.7 earthquake in Southern Iran has triggered tremor in Qatar and Bahrain today. According to the Iranian Seismological Center , the earthquake occurred ar 10 km depth. The epicenter was located 22 km far from Beiram, Fars. Qatar Meteorology Department confirmed that the tremor was felt in the eastern coast of Qatar. Most of the earthquake felt reports were received from Doha. No damage or injuries have been reported from the earthquake.

Earthquake Watsonville today: Magnitude 3.3 earthquake recorded 6km E of Interlaken, CA

June 5, 2020: Magnitude 3.3 earthquake has been felt in Watsonville today at 11:29 pm UTC, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed. According to the USGS, the earthquake's epicenter was located 6 km E of Interlaken and 8 km WSW of Watsonville, California. The tremor was felt by the people of Watsonville, Gilroy, Aromas, Cupertino, Morgan Hill and Salinas.

Earthquake in Hollister, California today measures 3.3: USGS

May 25, 2020: A weak earthquake of magnitude 3.3 has been felt in Hollister, California today at 8:27 am local time. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake's epicenter was located 5km NE of Tres Pinos and 10 km WNW of Hollister,California. The earthquake occurred at 8 km depth. No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported from earthquake in Hollister, CA today.

EF0 tornado in Saanich, B.C. today

May 21, 2020: A weak, short-lived EF0 tornado touched down in Saanich, B.C. today, the Environment Canada confirmed. The rare tornado in Saanich only lasted a few seconds and there were no reported injuries. According to  the Environment Canada , EF0 tornadoes have wind speeds of between 90 and 130 km/hr.

Bhaktapur Earthquake: Magnitude 3.4 earthquake rattles Kathmandu Valley

May 21, 2020: An earthquake of magnitude 3.4 has been recorded in Bhaktapur today at 8:14 am local time, the Nepal's National Seismological Center confirmed. According to the Seismological Center, the epicenter was located around Anantalingeshwar, Bhaktapur. The tremor well felt across Kathmandu valley and adjoining areas. No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported. This is the second earthquake felt in Nepal today. Magnitude 3.0 earthquake was recorded around Uku area of Darchula today at 2:41 am local time. Yunnan earthquake 2020: Magnitude 5.0 earthquake in China kills 4

May 18, 2020: A moderate earthquake of magnitude 5.0 has struck Qiaojia County in southwest China's Yunnan Province late Monday. At least four people have been killed and others 24 others have been injured. According to the Xinhua News Agency , the Yunnan provincial disaster reduction committee office and the provincial emergency response department have launched a level-four response for the disaster relief and sent a working group to the disaster area to assist and guide the earthquake relief work.

Magnitude 6.5 earthquake in Nevada today is largest in 66 years!

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has recorded a strong earthquake of magnitude 6.5 with epicenter located 56 km far from Tonopah, Nevada. May 14, 2020: A small earthquake of magnitude 2.7 has been felt in Kingston, Jamaica today at 04:03 pm local time. According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake's epicenter was located 26 km far from Kingston, Jamaica. The earthquake occurred at 10 km depth. The tremor was felt by the people of Half Way Tree, Constant Spring, Gordon town, Stony Hill and Mona, Kingston.

Burra earthquake today measures 4.3 in magnitude

May 14, 2020: A light earthquake of magnitude 4.3 has been recorded in Burra today at 03:23 pm local time. According to Geoscience Australia , the earthquake in Burra today occurred at 10 km depth. The epicenter was located near Burra, north of Adelaide. Geoscieince Australia received more than 500 earthquake felt reports within 24 hours. The tremor was felt from Mount Barker to Jamestown. This is the largest earthquake within 100 kilometres in the past 10 years. No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported from the earthquake in Burra today.

Kathmandu earthquake 2020: M5.3 earthquake shakes Nepal and India

May 12, 20202: Magnitude 5.3 moderate earthquake has been recorded in Dolakha, Nepal today with tremor even felt in several areas of Bihar, India at 11:53 pm local time. According to the Nepal's National Seismological Center, the earthquake's epicenter was located around Jugu area of Dolakha district along Jiri-Khadichaur Highway. The earthquake occurred at 10 km depth. People of Kathmandu valley reported of light to weak shaking of MMI III-IV. The tremor was felt as far as Hetauda and Birgunj.  People from several areas of Bihar, Indian also reported about a jolt felt at the same time. Most of the earthquake felt reports were received from Patna and Muzaffarpur. No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the seismicity in the Himalaya dominantly results from the continental collision of the India and Eurasia plates. Magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Nepal in 2015 killed nearly 9,000 people.

Darwin earthquake 2020: Geoscience Australia records M6.8 earthquake in Banda sea

May 6, 2020: A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.8 earthquake has been recorded in Banda Sea today at 10:53 pm, Geoscience Australia confirmed. According to the Geoscience Australia, the earthquake occurred at a greater depth of 142 km. The deeper earthquake are generally felt in wide areas.  Geoscience Australia received hundreds of earthquake felt reports from Darwin. No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported due to the earthquake.

Flooding in Uganda kills 6, displaced around 5,000

May 4, 2020: At least six people have been died and around 5,000 have been displaced as intense rains continue to flood parts of Uganda. Severe flooding has affected parts of the Isingiro District, including the sub-counties of Kabuyanda, Mwizi, and Birere from last week. A section of tarmac road was also washed away by floods in Isingiro, Southern Uganda following torrential rains.
