Rainfall, lightning in Nepal kills 2; disrupts domestic flights

Lightning in Makawanpur district of Nepal has claimed lives of at least two people and injured three others Thursday afternoon. Injured were students of local Shankar Lower secondary School in Manthali-3 and are having  treatment at Aashrang Health Post in Aashrang of Lalitpur, The Himalayan Times has written. At least 14 domestic flights have been cancelled in Pokhara, Simara, Bhadrapur and Biratnagar due to poor visibility, eKantipur has written quoting officials at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu.

Lightning in Solukhumbu, Nepal kills 3

A lightning in Waku VDC of Solukhumbu district of Nepal has claimed lives of at least three people. "The lightening has also damaged peltric set with the capacity of 11 KW," Nepal Republic Media has written quoting the local police. The village is just south of Mount Everest.

Lightning strike in Zimbabwe kills 7 including six children

A single bolt of lightning has claimed lives of six children and a woman in Zimbabwe. The seven were sheltering in two thatched huts when the lightning struck in Mugwinyi village in Bikita districton Monday. The seven victims, most of them minors, were at their thatched homestead when a bolt of lightning "suddenly struck", killing them instantly, AllAfrica has written quoting the National police spokesperson, Charity Charamba.

Season's biggest storm brings lightning, flooding in Northern California

Season's biggest storm has caused lightning, flooding and snow in Northern California, Los Angeles Times reported. Several lightning strikes have been recorded off the Bay Area. According to the National Weather Service, more thunderstorm activities are expected along the coast Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

South Australia hit by 80,000 lightning strikes

About 80,000 lighting strikes hit South Australia in 24 hours, particularly in the mid and upper north, in the Adelaide Hills and the southern metropolitan area, Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Vince Rowlands said Weather Zone Australia.

Hail storm, tornado in Canterbury damage houses

Hail storm and tornado that swept through Amberley in north Christchurch have damaged at least three houses. Lightning strikes have caused a small fire in Halswell. Lightning strike in Burundi kills 7 students, injures 51

Lightning strike in Burundi has claimed lives of at least seven students and injured 51 others, international medias reported. Lightning bolt hit the classroom where the high school students were sheltering from a severe storm. Heavy rains have destroyed more than 500 houses in the area. Mozambique lightning strikes: 4 killed, 8 injured in Zambezia

Lightning strikes in Mozambique have claimed lives of four people and injured eight others during storms, All Africa reported quoting the Beira daily paper, "Diario de Mocambique". The lightning strikes killed people in the Chinde, Gile and Milange districts in Zambezia province of Mozambique. According to the National Disasters Management Institute (INGC), dozen of shops and houses have been damaged in Lugela. Heavy rainfall and flooding have washed away roads in several parts of Sofala. Lightning strike in Argentina kills 3, injures 22

Lightning strike in Argentina has claimed lives of at least three people and injured 22 others.   Lightning bolt hit Villa Gesell, Argentina on Thursday afternoon and injured 16 adults and six children, Telam state news agency reported. Many of the injured people are having treatment in hospital for burns. Villa Gesell is a seaside village in Villa Gesell Partido on the Atlantic coast located around 400 kilometers from Buenos Aires. Lightning in Odisha, India kills 11

Lightning strikes in Odisha, India have claimed lives of at least 11 people and injured 15 others, Times of India reported. A flash of lightning hit a stone quarry at Kaipadar near Khurda, leaving four labourers dead.  Another lightning at Kusumati village near Jatni claimed two lives. At least four people died in lightning at Choudwar and Jagatpur. Similarly a farmer died due to lightning in Sundargarh district. Lightning strike in San Antonio kills 1, injures other

A lightning strike in San Antonio has killed a eight years old boy and injured one other, local medias reported. The two boys were playing in a backyard Thursday night when the lightning hit. The other boy, a 10-year-old, remains hospitalized, KENS-TV reported. According to the Encyclopedia of World Climatology, lightning happens about 40–50 times per second worldwide. Lightning, hail storm in Cebu claim 2 lives

Lightning and hailstorm in Cebu province of Philippines have claimed lives of at least two persons. Lightning in Toledo City of Cebu killed two person. Similarly hailstorm in Pinamungajan damaged at least two houses. The hailstorm hit barangays Binabag, Poblacion and Pandacan around 1:40 p.m. This is the second hailstorm in Pinamungajan this year. A lightning strike in Miami-area has claimed life of at least one people and injured two others. Injured people have been taken by ambulance to a trauma center for treatment, Fox News reported. Torrential rain, thunderstorms hit Bermuda

Torrential rain ad thunderstorms in Bermuda have caused flooding and wide spread power outages. More than 1,300 homes in Southampton and Warwick are without power due to lightning strikes, Bermuda Sun reported.
