Deadliest Earthquake in Modern History Hits Turkey and Syria, Causes Billions in Damage and Affects Millions

On February 6, 2023, an earthquake measuring 7.8 magnitude hit southeastern Turkey near the Syrian border. This was followed by another earthquake measuring 7.5 magnitude around 59 miles southwest nine hours later. The earthquake near Gaziantep in south-central Turkey was the strongest recorded there since 1939 and the most devastating earthquake to hit Turkey in more than 20 years. The Turkish government responded by declaring a level-4 emergency and calling for international assistance, and the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and the Turkish Red Crescent led the coordination efforts. Governments around the world sent rescue teams and offered aid. As of March 1, more than 11,000 aftershocks have occurred, and more are expected in the future. Snowstorm in Syria kills 11 including a two-day-old girl

Snowstorm in Syria has claimed lives of at least 11 people this week. "Seven children, including twin baby girls, were among the dead on Sunday", Times of Oman has written quoting the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Recent fatalities include a two-day-old girl in the Firdous district of the northern city of Aleppo and three boys in Beit Sahem, south of Damascus, in the eastern town of Albu Kamal and in southern Syria's Daraa province.

Rare snowstorm in Lebanon kills 3 Syrian refugees

Snowstorm in Lebanon has claimed lives of two Syrian man and a young boy, bringing misery to thousands of Syrian refugees. The bodies of the two Syrians refugees have been found in the Shebaa region of south Lebanon who were crossing the mountainous border between Syria and Lebanon,, Times of Oman has written quoting the local Red Cross agency. The National News Agency later reported that a third member of the group had also died, without identifying them, The Daily Star Lebanon has mentioned.
