Floods and landslides in Paraguay kill 10

February 5, 2021: Heavy floods and landslide triggered by heavy rainfall have claimed lives of at least 10 people in central and southern Paraguay over the past few days. Five people died in the Central Department, our in the Asuncion Metropolitan area and one in the Itapua Department.

Flooding prompts state of emergency in Paraguay: 15,000 families evacuated

A state of emergency has been declared after 15,000 people got evacuated due to flooding in Paraguay and Parana rivers. According to Paraguay weather service, flooding has been caused by heavy rains over the past month in Brazil. Increase in water levels in Parana river have brought flooding in Paraguay and Argentina. The government has started to provide flood aid to those living near the Parana and Paraguay rivers, News 24 hours reported. Paraguay emergency management officials had already warned of severe flooding in Paraguay in coming days . More than 3,000 people were evacuated only in Ayolas, Misiones and Presna Latina a week before. The 1982-83 Paraguay flooding caused by El Niño had affected parts of Brazil, Argentina and Bolivia. Thousands evacuated in Paraguay flooding

Thousands people have been evacuated in Paraguay flooding due to overflow of the Parana River. More than 3,000 people have been evacuated only in Ayolas, Misiones, Presna Latina reported. Alto Parana and Misiones are believed worst affected by floods. Police, firefighters have moved the people to different shelters in safer place. Paraguay flooding could affect 2,000 households over the next few days, Paraguay National Emergency official told a local radio. Paraguay Emergency Service has provided flood relief materials to Alto Parana. Tents and food have been send to affected families. The river's water level in the region has reached close to six meters. The continuous rise of Parana River would lead the government to declare a state of emergency.
