Cyclone Mekunu kills 13 in Oman and Yemen

May 29, 2018: Severe cyclone Mekunu has claimed lives of at least 13 people in Oman and Yemen, including seven on Socotra, and six in Oman. Mekunu made landfall on the Omani coast near the city of Salalah at peak intensity.  Cyclonic Storm Mekunu was the most intense tropical cyclone to make landfall over the Arabian Peninsula on record.

Flash floods kill 2 in Oman's Qurayat province

Two people died after their vehicle was swept away by flood waters in Wadi Kabeel of Qurayat province of Oman on Friday. Three other Omanis were rescued in Wadi Bani Karoos in the Dhank province, Gulf News reported quoting the Public Authority for Civil Defense and Ambulance (PACDA).

Severe weather in Oman kills 3; torrential rainfall continues

Severe weather in Oman has claimed lives of at least three people. Two people died due to flooding rivers in Al-Muthabi and Al-Rustaq. Another person died of lightning strike in Al-Muthaibi. Torrential rain continue to lash Oman from the last three days, Gulf Digital News reported.

Sandstorm, flood hit Oman

A sandstorm mixed with heavy rain hit the Wilayat of Mahout in the Governorate of Al Wusta, The Ministry of Information said. Rockfall has closed the Faj al Kham road. Local flooding also hit Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi, the Sultanate of Oman added. Oman floods in 2007 caused by Cyclone Gonu had claimed lives of at least 50 people. Lightning in Oman claims 2, floods cause chaos

Recent lightning strike in Oman has claimed two lives, Muscat Daily mentions. First lightning occurred in Mekhaileef in the wilayat of Saham and claimed life of a Bangladeshi. Another lightning struck an India in Fahud in the wilayat of Ibri. At least three others injured in the same disaster. Floods have halted the traffic between Saham and Sohar. Rock slide has blocked mountain road between Bausher and Amerat, Muscat Daily adds. Power outages have also been reported in Ghubra and Al Khuwayr, Muscat. Sultanate flood; Muscat Daily Heavy rainfall earlier caused flooding in Wadis. At least 30 people were rescued from Ibri, Oman. Following the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA), at least 320 people have been rescued in last seven days.
