Puerto Vallarta earthquake today measures 4.2 in magnitude

February 2, 2020: Magnitude 4.2 light earthquake has been recorded in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico today at 01:37 am. According to the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), the quake's epicenter was located 12 km Southwest of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. The earthquake occurred at 17 km depth. No damage or injuries have been reported from the earthquake in Puerto Vallarta today.

Mexico: Popocatepetl volcano last eruption spews ash 9,800ft high

January 10, 2020: Mexico's Popocatépetl volcano erupted on Thursday with lava and cloud of ash and rocks that reached 9,800ft (3,000m) into the sky. National Civil Protection Coordination of Mexico has issued a yellow alert for the area around San Nicolás de los Ranchos. According to the Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Washington, the Popocatépetl volcano monitoring network detected 268 exhalations, 90 minutes of tremors, and 3 volcano-tectonic earthquakes. Popocatepetl volcano last eruption caused light ashfall in the State of Mexico; Ozumba; Puebla; San Nicolás de los Ranchos; Chiautzingo; San Matías Tlalpaneca, and Teotlalzingo. Tropical Cyclone 16 likely to form in the Gulf of Mexico

October 18, 2019: Potential Tropical Cyclone 16 is likely to form in the Gulf of Mexico late Thursday or early Friday bringing heavy rainfall and coastal flooding, the National Hurricane Center said. Tropical Cyclone 16 is currently over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. However, the tropical storm watches and warnings have been issued for parts of the Gulf Coast, The Weather Channel reported. A tropical storm warning has been issued for parts of the northern Gulf Coast from the Mississippi/Alabama border to the Ochlockonee River, Florida, and from Grand Isle, Louisiana, to the mouth of the Pearl River. Similarly, a tropical storm watch is in effect for east of the Ochlockonee River to Yankeetown, Florida. If tropical cyclone 16 becomes a tropical/subtropical storm, it would be called Nestor. Mexico Flood: Quintana Roo state declares state of emergency

Heavy rainfall has caused flooding across Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, leading to the governor of Quintana Roo state declaring a state of emergency. On Monday, 106mm of rain fell in the state capital, Chetumal. More than 100 homes have been flooded in Chetumal, Al Jazeera reported.

Freak tornado rips through Ciudad Acuna, Mexico killing 13

At least 13 people have died after a freak tornado ripped through the northern Mexican city of Ciudad Acuna on Monday morning. Fatalities include 10 adults and three children, Coahuila Governor Ruben Moreira said on a visit to the disaster area.

Flights cancelled as Mexico's Popocatepetl volcano erupts

At least three flights have been cancelled following the eruption at Popocatepetl volcano east of Mexico City. "Operations in Puebla were suspended at 6:30 a.m. (7:30 a.m. EST) to allow airport personnel to clean runways and other areas covered in ash," CTV News has written quoting a statement from the government's airport oversight agency on Wednesday.

Update 8 July 2014, 04:35 UTC   Guatemala - Three deaths were reported in San Marcos. - One death was reported in Quetzaltenango due to a cardiac arrest. -(Unconfirmed)  One death was reported in Escuintla due to a cardiac arrest. - 35 people were injured and 135 homes were damaged in Sibinal. - A schools was heavily damaged in Comitancillo. - Schools were damaged in Retalhuleu. - The cathedral of San Pedro Sacatepequez was heavily damaged. Landslide engulfs bus in Mexico, 12 killed

At least 12 people died and eight others were injured when a landslide engulfed a bus in an eastern Mexican town, Xinhua reported. Disaster occurred in Altotonga, a town in eastern Veracruz state of Mexico on Monday, the state's civil protection agency said. Military and civilian rescuers were involved in rescue operation. Heavy flooding and massive landslides in Mexico caused by Tropical Storm Manuel and Hurricane Ingrid have claimed several lives in recent days. Tropical Storm Manuel and Hurricane Ingrid kill 20 in Mexico

Heavy flooding and massive landslides caused by Tropical Storm Manuel and Hurricane Ingrid have claimed lives of at least 20 people in Mexico. At least 14 died in the southwestern state of Guerrero and six in the central states of Puebla and Hidalgo. More than 2,000 people left their homes while 21,000 households are without power in Guerrero, AFP reported quoting emergency management officials. As of 11 a.m. PDT September 15 (1800 UTC September 15), Tropical Storm Manuel was located about 15 km southeast of Manzanillo, Mexico. An "orange alert" (high risk) in southern Michoacan, and "yellow" (moderate) alert in rest of Michoacan and Guerrero have already been issued. Hurricane Ingrid is the ninth tropical storm and second hurricane of the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season . As of 7 p.m. CDT September 15 (0000 UTC September 16), Hurricane Ingrid was located about 200 km east-northeast of Tampico, Mexico and about 200 km east-southeast of La Pesca, Mexico.

Landslides in Mexico kill 13 (updated)

Update 05:05 UTC; 2013/09/11 Death toll from Mexico landslides have risen to 13, AFP reported quoting a state civil protection official. Five more bodies have been found in Coscomatepec. Landslides in Mexico have swept away two homes and killed eight people, local authorities said. According to the emergency officials, other two people have been rescued alive from the landslide site in Veracruz state. Landslides hit the town of Manzanatitla late Monday, located about 320 kilometers east of Mexico City. Tropical Storm Juliette hits Mexico resorts, 1 killed

Tropical Storm Juliette has claimed life of one person at Pacific Mexican tourist resort of Cabo San Lucas early Thursday, Reuters reported. About 1,650 people are taking shelters, emergency officials said. According to the civil defense officials, the storm flooded low-lying areas and collapsed at least one house. Power outages have also been reported in Todos Santos, Pescadero, parts of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo areas. Tropical storm Fernand had claimed lives of at least 14 people in Mexico some days ago. Tropical Storm Juliette formed on August 28. As of 2 p.m. PDT (2100 UTC), Tropical Storm Juliette was located about 130 miles (210 km) northwest of Cabo San Lazaro and about 140 miles (230 km) southeast of Punta Eugenia. Tropical storm Fernand: Mexico landslides, flooding kill 14

Landslides and flooding in Veracruz and Oaxaca have claimed lives of at least 14 people. Landslide in Gold Rock in Yecuatla Township buried six homes with nine people inside. Landslides in Tuxpan and Atzalan claimed lives of four others. Fast-flowing flood waters swept away a man in Oaxaca. Following Veracruz Civil Protection officials, around 300 people have been evacuated. Veracruz Governor has asked the federal government to declare an emergency in 92 municipalities in Mexico.
