    -Indonesia's capital Jakarta has been hit by its deadliest flooding in yeas due to heavy rainfall on New Year's Eve, claiming lives of nine people and causing thousands to evacuate.

    -The activity of the volcano has been fluctuating between high and medium levels.
    -According to the Volcano Discovery, it is characterized by strombolian explosions from multiple vents in the crater terrace with averages of 22 events per hour during the past day.

Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Tropical Cyclone Sarai in Tonga
    -Tropical Cyclone Sarai caused minor damage on Tonga's main island, Tongatapu, with flooding in areas with poor drainage and damages to the trees.

Natural Disaster News
  • Swiss Reinsurance Institute said that global insurance and reinsurance companies suffered about $56 billion, out of the N140 billion total economic losses from natural and man-made disasters in 2019. Click for detail report
  • The British charity Christian Aid reports that climate change amplified 15 extreme weather disasters in 2019 that caused at least a billion dollars in damage in each case. The most costly events in terms of damage were California wildfires ($25 billion), Typhoon Hagibis in Japan ($15 billion) and flooding in the American Midwest ($12.5 billion).
  • FEMA and the Central Office for Recovery, Reconstruction and Resilience, or COR3, have obligated over $20.5 million in additional funds for 37 projects related to the recovery and reconstruction of Puerto Rico. These funds were obligated between December 20 and December 26.

It's important to know how we can prepare for natural disasters with proper emergency preparedness plan for less natural disasters damage. We have developed several natural disasters early warning system which provides warnings of natural disasters before they impact people and property. Hail storm in Chennai: 3rd time in 5 years

Hail storm hit Ayanavaram, Chennai between 1.30pm and 1.45pm Friday afternoon. Nungambakkam recorded 3.5cm of rain and Meenambakkam 1.1cm, India Meteorological Department said.
