M4.8 earthquake rattles Florence area, Italy — Causes minor damage

December 9, 2019: Magnitude 4.8 earthquake rattled Florence area at 3.30 a.m. (02:30 GMT), the U.S Geological Survey said. 

According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred in Mugello region of Tuscany, some 31 km (19 miles) northeast of Florence.

The earthquake caused cracks in the walls of the church of San Silvestro in the town of Barberino del Mugello.

The schools have been closed in the region and many trains through Florence have been cancelled or delayed.
