Hawaii: Magnitude 5.3 earthquake in Big Island today

June 8, 2017: A moderate earthquake of magnitude 5.3 rattled Big Island with tremor felt from Volcano to Waikoloa.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake's epicenter was located 18 km SE of Volcano, Hawaii. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 7 km.

The earthquake struck about 7 a.m.  near the south flank of the Kilauea volcano.

At least 15 aftershocks have followed the earthquake.

No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported.
