Tremor felt in Kathmandu valley Sunday morning — Epicenter in Sindhupalchowk

Update

According to National Seismological Center, the earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred in Sindhupalchowk district at 4:30 am local time. The epicenter was located near Ichok.

NSC has confirmed it as an aftershock of 2015 Gorkha earthquake. It occurred at 14 miles depth.

No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported. This is the second aftershock of magnitude greater than four recorded in Sindhupalchowk district in less than 24 hours. Yesterday, magnitude 4.3 aftershock occurred at 05:05 am local time.

Three people were injured in Gorkha during panic rush after magnitude 4.5 earthquake rocked the western region three days ago.

At least 458 aftershocks of magnitude 4 and greater have been recorded since 2015 Gorkha earthquake. Researchers have predicted another major earthquake in Nepal’s Gorkha district within years rather than the centuries that usually pass between quakes.
