Indiana statewide tornado drill 2016 starts today: March 22, 2016

A statewide tornado drill is scheduled today in Indiana. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security has asked Hoosiers to plan ahead for tornado season and participate in the Statewide Tornado Drill on Tuesday, March 22, 2016.

The tornado drills will be observed both in the morning and evening. The drills will be at 10:15 a.m. and 7:35 p.m. Tuesday.

A test of the Emergency Alert System will sound on commercial radio, television networks and all-hazards radios, The Indiana Department of Homeland Security mentioned in a press release.

The statewide drills provide an excellent opportunity for families, schools and business to practice their weather safety action plan.

The tornado drill in Indiana is a part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week. Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana is being observed from March 20-26 2016.

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service (NWS) are also holding a statewide tornado drill today.
