Aug. 21, 2017 total solar eclipse in USA will be first in 26 yrs

A total solar eclipse will take place on Monday, August 21, 2017 which will be visible from the United States. During a total solar eclipse, the moon will cast its shadow upon Earth's surface where all sunlight will be blocked out. 

The 2017 total solar eclipse will be the first total solar eclipse visible from the United States since 1991 (visible only from part of Hawaii) and also first total solar eclipse of 21st century of the country. The total solar eclipse 2017 will first touch the Oregon coast between Lincoln City and Newport at 10:15 a.m. PDT. It will exit Oregon at 10:27 a.m. 

The total eclipse will be visible from Oregon and then Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, and finally to South Carolina. People of North America, Hawaii, Greenland, Iceland, British Isles, Portugal, Central America, Caribbean, northern South America and Chukchi Peninsula will observe partial solar eclipse.

Apart from that, the partial solar eclipse will also be visible from parts of Western Europe and northern and western South America. Iceland, Scotland and Ireland in Europe will be only able to observe the partial solar eclipse from beginning to end.

The next total solar eclipse in United States will be on April 8, 2024. The total solar eclipse of 2024 will pass through Mexico, the United States and Canada.

In 2016, total solar eclipse occurred on March 8/9 in the Indian Ocean and passed through Indonesia before ending in the northern Pacific Ocean. The total solar eclipse was observed in more than 35% area of Indonesia. People in northern Australia and parts South Asia had partial eclipses.
