Tropical Cyclone Stan, the first cyclone of the season for Australia, is expected to bring potentially damaging wind gusts and heavy rain in Western Australia.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), Stan is predicted to intensify to a Category 3 Severe Tropical Cyclone and would cross the east Pilbara coast early on Sunday morning.

A Red Alert has been issued for people between Port Hedland and Wallal, including Pardoo, Eighty Mile and Wallal. People in these regions should immediately move to shelters.

According to BOM Tropical Cyclone Advice issued at 05:51 WST on 30 January 2016, very destructive winds with gusts to 200 kilometres per hour are possible near the cyclone centre if it intensifies to category 3 as it makes landfall during Sunday morning.

Tropical Cyclone Warning has been issued for communities in Broome to Whim Creek including Port Hedland, extending to inland parts of the east Pilbara, including Marble Bar, Nullagine, Cotton Creek and Telfer.

A dangerous storm tide is expected between Bidyadanga and Port Hedland leading to very danagerous flooding. Heavy rainfall associated with the system is forecast for parts of the Pilbara and far western Kimberley and will extend further inland as the system continues to track southwards during Sunday.

A Yellow Alert has been issued for the people in an area bounded by Whim Creek, Marble Bar and Port Hedland including Port Hedland, South Hedland and Marble Bar and also east of the forecast track between Bidyadanga and Wallal including Bidyadanga. People in these region need to take action and get ready to shelter from a cyclone.

Similarly, Blue Alert has been issued for the people in communities between Broome and Bidyadanga not including Bidyadanga; and for the area bounded by Whim Creek, Munjina, Jigalong, Cotton Creek, Telfer and Bidyadanga including Nullagine, Telfer and Roy Hill but not including Newman. People in these regions should prepare for cyclonic weather and organise an emergency kit including first aid kit, torch, portable radio, spare batteries, food and water.
