  • Avalanche in British Colombia
    -Avalanche disaster near McBride, British Columbia of Canada claimed lives of five people on Friday.

  • Severe storm in Sydney, Australia
    -A severe storm caused havoc in Sydney and other parts of New South Wales and the ACT.
    -The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) detected very dangerous thunderstorms over Parramatta, Erskine Park, Fairfield, Horsley Park, Leppington and Liverpool by 4:00pm.
    -BoM has warned that Sydney could be hit by another storm on Saturday night.

  • M 4.3 light earthquake in Montana (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 24 km E of Lincoln. It will have been well felt by the people of Helena, Great Falls, Butte and Missoula.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake in Chile (@ 16 km depth) with epicenter located 70km WSW of Valparaiso. Weak tremor will have been felt by the people of Vina del Mar, Cartagena and San Antonio.

  • M 7.2 strong earthquake in Russia with epicenter located 91 km N of Yelizovo. Strong jolt will have been felt by the people of Yelizovo, Paratunka, Atlasovo, Vilyuchinsk and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.

    According to USGS, the earthquake occurred as the result of oblique-normal faulting at a depth of 180 km. The depth and faulting mechanism of this earthquake indicate that it ruptured a fault within the subducting Pacific lithosphere.

Typhoon Kompasu kills 11 in Philippines

October 12, 2021: Typhoon Kompasu (called "Maring" in Philippines) has claimed lives of eleven people and left seven others missing in Philippines . More than 6,500 villagers have been evacuated from flood affected areas. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), fatalities have been reported from Benguet, Cagayan and Palawan province. The Philippines' National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) was on ALERT STATUS RED since the start of the natural disaster . According to the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), Kompasu will make landfall in upper Vietnam on Wednesday or Thursday. Heavy rain is expected in Mukdahan, Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon and Bueng Kan provinces in Thailand.
