M 5.6 earthquake in Assam today rattles Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal

Magnitude 5.6 moderate, shallow earthquake in Assam, India rattled neighboring Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal today.

According to India Meteorological Department, the earthquake was recorded in Kokrajhar region of Assam at 06:35 am local time. It occurred at 10 km depth.

"At least three people sustained minor injuries when an old wall collapsed near the Kokrajhar Railway station," NDTV quoted Assam State Disaster Management Authority Chief Executive Officer Pramod Kumar Tiwari as saying.

The earthquake rattled doors and windows forcing people to rush out of their houses in capital Guwahati.

Tremors were felt across the eastern parts of India, as well as Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal. A strong jolt has been reported in eastern Nepal including Paanchthar, Itahari and neighboring districts. 

A mild tremor was even felt in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh.
