Floods, landslides in Sankhuwasabha kill 1

Flood and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall in Sankhuwasabha, Nepal have claimed life of a woman.

A landslide buried 60 years old, Kalimaya Rai of Num-1 on Thursday, eKantipur quoted Nepal Police.

The flood also caused damage to Barun, Nigure, Khadguwa hydropower plants of Sankhuwasabha district. At least 16 families have been trapped in Kanduwa village in Pawakhola-6 of Sankhuwasabha district, The Himalayan Times reported.

Floods triggered by incessant rainfall have washed away more than a dozen bridges in the district.

At least 30 houses have been affected by the floods in Sabhapokhari -2 of the district.

Meanwhile, landslides triggered by incessant rainfall in Taplejung have claimed lives of at least 53 people. Landslides have affected the entire area of Liwang, Khokling, Thinglabu and Lingtep VDCs of the districts of eastern Nepal.

The National Emergency Operation Centre reported at least 10 fatalities from landslide in Sankhuwasabha in August lat year. The flood situation is expected to be worst as forecast monsoon enters Nepal through the eastern parts in a couple of days.
