Flooding in Assam, India kills 1 and affects nearly 33,000

Recent flooding in Assam, India has claimed life of a person and affected nearly 33,000 people.

According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the deceased belonged to Bongaigaon district of Assam.

Floods have affected 108 villages in six districts of Assam, The Times of India reported. Barpeta district is the facing the worst situation where around 12,200 people have been affected due to the flood.

Atleast12 relief camps have been opened in Kokrajhar district, where over 9,100 people have been staying at present, State Disaster Management Authority said.

The flood has damaged over 50 houses and almost 1,000 hectares of crop areas across the state.

Flash flooding in Assam in 2013 had affected 12 districts out of the 27 districts. Red alert was issued in the area.
