Tornadoes in Texas and Arkansas kill 5

At least five people died after tornadoes battered several small communities in Texas and Arkansas.

More than two dozen tornadoes ripped through parts of Arkansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Texas on Sunday, USA Today has written quoting National Weather Service meteorologist, Greg Carbin as saying.

A couple died when a twister hit their mobile home late Sunday in the Arkansas town of Nashville.

According to Associated Press, National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado with a preliminary EF2 rating and winds estimated at 125 mph in Nashville.

In Van, Texas, a man and a woman died and 43 people were taken to hospitals after a tornado tore through the county Sunday night.

Tornado damaged 50 to 100 homes and the local schools in the small city of Van.  An EF3, with winds from 135 mph to 140 mph hit the area.

A man died after being being swept into a ditch in Corsicana, Texas.

Earlier, a tornado in Delmont, South Dakota injured at least nine people and damaged dozens of buildings. The National Weather Service (NWS) had issued a flash flood emergency for the first time in Oklahoma City metro area.

The governors of Texas and Arkansas have declared disasters after deadly tornadoes hit the area, Reuters reported.

A tornado watch has been posted in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Kentucky. Weather Service expects more tornadoes possible in southern Texas and around the Great Lakes for later Monday.
