Reunion active volcano Piton de la Fournaise shows new eruption

A new volcanic eruption has been observed at Piton de la Fournaise volcano in Reunion Island on Sunday at 13:45 pm.

The small volcanic eruption at Piton de la Fournaise formed a fissure vent at the the southeast slopes of the Dolomieux crater inside the Enclos next to the Château Fort cone, Volcano Discovery reported.

An alert level 2 has been issued which means an eruption is occurring inside the caldera and access to the caldera is restricted to authorized personnel only.

Piton de la Fournaise is a shield volcano located on the eastern side of Réunion island in the Indian Ocean.
