  • Flooding in Tanzania
    -Floods in Tanzania today have claimed lives of at least 50 people. -Torrential rains, hail and high winds hit Kahama district in Shinyanga region late on Tuesday, injuring at least 82 people. Click for detail report on Tanzania floods.
  • Avalanche in Austria
    -An avalanche in Austria today has claimed life of a 27-year-old Australian woman and critically injured a 30-year-old man.

  • Avalanche in Pithoragarh, India
    -An avalanche in Chhiyalakh on the border with Nepal in Pithorgarh district of India has claimed lives of two soldiers and left one missing.
    -Heavy snowstorm has affected the rescue operation in the area, The Times of India reported.

    -Recent flooding in Brazil has affected total of 75,000 people, emergency services said.
    -Classes were cancelled at Rio Branco schools.

    -A state of emergency has been declared in the area.

  • About  56% of 100 cities most exposed to natural disasters are found in four Asian nations, a study published on Wednesday by risk analysis firm Verisk Maplecroft has shown. Philippine cities are most at risk from natural disasters as eight out of 10 world cities most exposed to natural disasters are located there followed by China, Japan and Bangladesh.   •  The global economic losses from natural disasters in the world have continued rising to reach an average of $250 billion to $300 billion annually, according to a U.N. report released Wednesday. The 2015 Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction (GAR15), prepared by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) estimates that an investment of US$6 billion annually in disaster risk management would result in avoided losses of US$360 billion over the next 15 years.
