Thousands of Filipinos have fled their homes as Mayon volcano spewed lava in Albay province of Philippines.
According to the PhilStar, Albay Gov. Joey Salceda has ordered the evacuation of up to 12,000 residents within an 8-kilometer radius of the volcano's crater.
Following the report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, around 51,625 people in 65 villages have been affected till Tuesday evening.
Mayon Volcano's seismic network has recorded 45 volcanic earthquakes and 270 rock fall events in the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Wednesday.
The disaster response councils of Legazpi City, Tabaco City, Ligao City, Guinobatan, Camalig, Daraga, Sto. Domingo and Malilipot have also been ordered to convene and brace for the evacuation, Manilla Bulletin mentioned. All the police units in Albay have been placed on full alert status following the Mayon volcano eruption 2014.
PHIVOLCS has warned that "hazardous eruption is possible within weeks" and placed the Mayon volcano under Alert number 3. "Alert Level 3 means that magma is at the crater and that hazardous eruption is possible within weeks," PHIVOLCS said.
Mayon Volcano (Bulkang Mayon) is an active volcano in the province of Albay, on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. Mayon volcano eruption 2013 had claimed lives of five people including a German and an Austrian. The volcano's most violent eruption in1814 killed more than 1,200 people and devastated several towns.
