Weak earthquake in Spitak, Armenia

M 2.9 earthquake shakes Armenia’s Spitak region at 14:16 local time, the Armenian Emergency Ministry's Seismic Protection Service reported.

According to the Seismic Protection Service, the epicenter was located 7 km far from Spitak with hypocenter at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors were well felt in Vanadzor and Spitak.

Spitak is the same town which was almost entirely destroyed in 1998 earthquake. The Spitak earthquake (also called Leninakan earthquake and Gyumri earthquake) claimed lives between 25,000 - 50,000.
