  • Deadly tornado in Oklahoma
    -
    Oklahoma tornado has claimed lives of 51 people including 20 children.
    -Tornado heavily damaged Briarwood Elementary School, 14901 Hudson Ave. off of SW 149. Several people were evacuated from Moore Medical Center.
    -Tornado injured 145 people others including 70 children. Several children were pulled out of rubble alive at Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore, Okla.
    -US President Obama has declared major disaster in Oklahoma after devastating tornado, AP reports. The declaration means federal emergency aid will supplement local recovery efforts. Click for detail report on Oklahoma tornado.
  • Landslide in Nepal
    -Betsy Palmer, an associate professor of education at Montana State University, passed away in a landslide tragedy in Nepal.
    -Betsy Palmer was hit by landslide during trek to a remote village in the Arun River Valley. Click for detail report on Nepal's landslide.


Recent Earthquakes 
  • M 6.5 strong harmless earthquake Off the coast of Aisen, Chile (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 590km WSW of Puerto Quellon. It will have faintly felt by the people of Chonchi, Castro and Puerto Aisen. No Tsunami alert issued.

  • M 4.0 light shallow earthquake in Bosnia and Herzegovina (@ 2 km depth) with epicenter located 8 km N of Tomislavgrad. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Sarajevo and Split (Croatia).

  • Alaska/Pavlof recent volcanic activity
    -
    Alaska's Pavlof Volcano has spewed ash and steam at 19,500 feet into the air.
    -The aviation warning level remained at code orange.
    -People of Sand Point on Popof Island have reported traces of ash on their vehicles overnight.
    -Pavlof's latest eruption began May 13 combined with a strong thermal anomaly.
  • Mexico/Popocatepetl recent volcanic activity
    -Popocatepetl volcano continues to emit smoke and rocks. At least 24 low-intensity eruptions were registered on Sunday.
    -The alarm level remains at Yellow.
    -A strong eruption was recorded at Popocatepetl volcano a month before. Steam and ash column from Popocatepetl volcano reached a maximum height of 400 m.

  • There is no tropical storm activity for today.

  • Forest fires in Siberia
    -At least 27 forest fires in Serbia have burned 2,591.7 hectares
    .
    -Huge forest fire in the Republics of Tuva and Buryatia have been extinguished by fire fighters.
    -An emergency situation remains in place throughout Tuva since May 8.
