 Recent Natural Disasters
  • Landslide in Mizoram, India
    -    Thunderstorm and landslides in Mizoram, India have claimed lives of 10 people with seven reported missing.
    -Landslide also swept away nine houses in Laipuitland area. Click for detail report on Mizoram landslide.
  • Very strong earthquake in Iran
    -M 6.0 very strong earthquake has hit Iran with epicenter located 89 km ESE of Minab.
    -One killed and 17 others injured Mehr news agency reports quoting official of Crisis Management of Hormozgan province.
    -Around 400 buildings have been destroyed in the quake.
    -Iran Bushehr earthquake in April 2013 claimed 37 lives.
    Update
    -Death toll has risen to 2. It also includes a 13 month old child.
    -At least 20 people are reported to be injured.

  • M 6.5 strong deep sea quake in Tonga (@ 205 km depth) with epicenter located 139km NW of Neiafu. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Neiafu and Pangai.

  • M 4.5 moderate earthquake in Japan (@ 29 km depth) with epicenter located 40km NE of Yonakuni. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Ishigaki, Su'ao and Yilan (Taiwan).19:31 UTC (local time 2013-05-12 03:31 @ epicenter)
  • M 3.7 light earthquake in California with epicenter located 40km SW of Ferndale. It will have well felt by the people of Fortuna, Eureka and Bayside.
    06:10 UTC (local time 2013-05-10 22:10 @ epicenter)
  • M 4.7 moderate shallow earthquake in Libya (@ 15 km depth) with epicenter located 5km NW of Sabratah. It will have well felt by the people of Surman, Zawiya, Zuwarah and Tripoli.

  • M 6.0 very strong earthquake in Iran (@ 14 km depth) with epicenter located 89km ESE of Minab. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Minab, Qeshm, Bandar 'Abbas and Khasab. People of Diba, Dib Dibba, Ra's al Khaymah, Al Sohar, Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

    Felt reports received by Disaster-Report.Com    Irfan Bashir from Ajman, UAE: It was 06:00am when I was sitting on my computer chair and it started to move and picture on wall started to move slowly like a pandolam.
    Mike from Ras Al Khaimah: This morning around 6.17 am, the chandeliers began to sway side to side. My bed felt I lived next door to a train station when a train goes by a vibration. Ras Al Khaimah is only about 175miles away from Iran think, the Government should issue people in case of Emergency plans what to do, and not to do! But I guess nothing will happen till its to late.
  • M 4.6 moderate shallow earthquake in Linqiong, China (@ 18 km depth) with epicenter located 99km ENE of Kangding. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Chengdu and Leshan.

    -Heavy rainfall collapsed near a school in Yangmingshan, Taipei.
    -The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) has predicted more rainfall and flash flooding in Northern Taiwan today.

We have developed several natural disasters early warning system which provides warnings of natural disasters before they impact people and property. Hail storm in Chennai: 3rd time in 5 years

Hail storm hit Ayanavaram, Chennai between 1.30pm and 1.45pm Friday afternoon. Nungambakkam recorded 3.5cm of rain and Meenambakkam 1.1cm, India Meteorological Department said. Last hail storm in Chennai was in September 6, 2011. This is the third hail storm in Chennai in last 5 years. No damage or injury have been reported from Chennai hail storm. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 60 km SE of Kegen and 227 km E Almaty . It was 6.8 miles deep. Following USGS, light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Kegen, Tyup, Karakol, Aksu, Zharkent and Kyzyl-Suu. People of Kapchagai, Yesik, Aral, Talghar and Almaty will have felt weak shaking of MMI III. Earthquake occurred in the border of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and China (Xinjiang).
