King tides to cause flooding in Auckland today

Strong winds, king tides and flooding are predicted to occur Saturday night and Sunday morning in Auckland, New Zealand .

A flood warning has been issued by the New Zealand Transport Agency, Radio New Zealand reports. Flood warning has been issued for drivers in Thames, Auckland travelling on low-lying roads close to the Waitemata Harbour.

Heavy rainfall, strong winds with king tides peaking at 3.5 metres are expected. King tides may cause motorway flooding in Auckland.

MetService has also issued a severe weather warning for Bay of Plenty, also Fiordland and Westland south of Otira. Heavy rainfall is expected in these regions.

Around 70 to 100 mm rainfall is forecast in 18 hours period.

Waterspouts and funnel clouds hit Auckland coast some days ago. Double waterspouts were spotted in the Manukau Harbour but didn't touch down on ground.
