Recent Natural Disasters
- Cold wave in Nepal
-Cold wave in Nepal has killed so far 60 people this winter season.
-Most of the victims are from the Terai districts of Nepal.
-Seven people died of cold in Bara and Rautahat districts yesterday night (Wednesday). Six were killed in Kailali and Kanchanpur districts and two others were killed in Jhapa yesterday only.
-Strong winds also destroyed 13 houses at Khunde in Ward No. 4 and 5 of Khumjung VDC in Solukhumbu (gateway to Mount Everest).
-Injured people are having treatment in local Khunde Hospital, Khumjung. Solukhumbu storm caused damage of more than Rs 10 million.

- M 4.5 moderate shallow earthquake in Honduras (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 176 km N La ceiba. Weak tremor will have felt as far as Sonaguera.
13:52 UTC (local time 07:52; 2013/01/10 @ epicenter) - M 5.8 moderate earthquake in Northern Sumatra, Indonesia (@ 35 km depth) with epicenter located 91 km SSW of Banda Aceh. Banda Aceh, Sigli, Meulaboh, Sabang, Reuleuet and Bireun will have felt light shaking of MMI IV.
13:47 UTC (local time Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 08:47 PM @ epicenter) - M 4.9 moderate earthquake near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan (@ 53 km depth) with epicenter located 25 km ENE of Namie. People of Hitachi, Iwaki, Mito, Narita, Sendai, Utsunomiya, Marumori, Kakuda and Funehiki will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Bolivia (Madre de Dios), Brazil (Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq (Shatt al Arab and Tigris), Kenya (Tana), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile, White Nile), Syria (Euphrates), Tanzania.
- Flooding in South Island, New Zealand
-Heavy rainfall caused flooding and closed roads in the South Island of New Zealand.
-State Highways 94 from Lumsden to Te Anau and State Highway 73 from Cass to Arthurs Pass were closed because of flooding, washouts and slips.
-Heavy storm also caused damage in Fiordland.

- Tropical Cyclone Narelle
-As of 03:00 UTC, TC Narelle was located 475 nm north-northeast of Learmonth, Australia.
-Tropical Cyclone Narelle is the second TC that has formed in the Indian Ocean this cyclone season.
-TC Narelle which is moving in a SW direction parallel to the northwestern WA coast north of Dampier is predicted to become a category 4 storm. Click to follow live updates on TC Narelle.

- Tornado in Kaikoura, New Zealand
-A tornado in Beach Rd, Kaikoura damaged several houses.
-Twister cut power to around 250 Kaikoura homes.
