  • Flooding in Western Turkey
    -One killed in flooding in western Turkey. Heavy rainfall caused flooding in western provinces of Balıkesir, Canakkale and Bursa.
    -Several houses and shops destroyed in Balıkesir's Edremit and Burhaniye districts.
    -The Canakkale-Izmir highway and the road between Gomec and Ayvalık closed because of flooding.
    -Weather service in Turkey has predicted more flash floods in the Marmara region.
    -Flash floods killed 11 people in July in the coastal Black Sea province of Samsun. Flood is the second most destructive natural disaster in Turkey after earthquakes.   • M 5.5 moderate aftershocks Offshore Guatemala (@ 35 km depth) with epicenter located 35 km SSW of Ocos. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Suchiate, La Libertad, Ocos, Ciudad Tecun Uman, Champerico, Puerto Madero and Tapachula. People of Petapa, Villa Nueva, Guatemala City and Mixco will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

  • M 4.8 moderate earthquake in Black Sea (@ 2 km depth) with epicenter located 22 km SE Šabla. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Kavarna, Varna and Bucharest.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake in Eastern Iran (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 27 km NNE of Kerman. People of Zarand, Bardsir and Ravar will have felt just a weak shaking of MMI II-III.

  • M 4.6 moderate shallow earthquake in Myanmar (@ 17 km depth) with epicenter located 68 km WNW of Mogok. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Shwebo, Mandalay and Maymyo.

  • M 4.9 moderate earthquake in Atacama, Chile (@ 81 km depth) with epicenter located 59 km ESE of Vallenar. People of Copiapo, Vicuna, La Serena, Copiapó, and Coquimbo.

  • M 4.7 moderate earthquake near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan (@ 67 km depth) with epicenter located 16 km ESE of Oarai. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Katsuta, Hitachi-Naka and Funaishikawa.

  • M 3.9 light earthquake in Slovenia (@ 19 km depth) with epicenter located 10 km N Moravce. It will have well felt by the people of Kamnik, Ljubljana , Domzale, Šentjur pri Celju and Trieste (Italy).

Recent Flash Floods
Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Brazil (Rio Paranaiba, Juruena, Purus and Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Colombia (Putamayo and Rio Negro), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Guatemala, Indonesia, Iraq (Euphrates and Tigris), Kenya (Bohoni and Turo), Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile), Taiwan, Tanzania (Mwanza Shinyango road), Uganda (White Nile) and United States (Rio Grande, North America).
  • Flooding in California
    -Forecasters had issued flood warnings for the Napa and Russian rivers, as well as the Truckee River, near Lake Tahoe, but by Sunday afternoon the warning for the Russian River was cancelled.
    -It is the third powerful storm to hit Northern California within a week.
    -In Southern California, high surf was predicted in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties.
    -Following National Weather Service, up to 5 more inches of rain could fall across Northern California (north of Redding and across the Sierra Nevada).
    Napa: Officials handed out more than 8,000 sandbags and about 150 tons of sand.
    Nevada: A homeless man in Reno fell into the Truckee River and is reported to be missing.
    Oregon: Coquille and Rogue rivers about 2 feet above flood stage.

Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Super Typhoon Bopha
    -As of 12:00 UTC, Typhoon Bopha (local name Pablo) was located 630 nm southeast of Manila, Philippines.
    -Bopha (Pablo) was packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 220 kph.
    -Public Storm Signal No. 1 issued in 18 provinces in Visayas and Mindanao of Philippines.
     Visayas: Bohol, Biliran, Camotes Island, Southern Leyte, Leyte, Eastern Samar, and Western Samar.
    Mindanao: Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island, Dinagat Is., Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte inc. Samal Is., Compostela Valley, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental and Camiguin. Click for detail report on Philippines Typhoon Bopha.
    Update
    -One person reported to be killed in Philippines. Dozens of people are injured by flying debris and falling trees.
    -About 20 typhoons hit the Philippines every year. Typhoon Bopha is the strongest tropical storm to hit the Philippines this year.

  • Snow storm in Liaoning, China
    -Several passenger ships departing from the port city of Dalian suspended due to heavy snowstorm in NorthEast China.
    -More than 11,000 passenger buses were suspended and also caused temporary shut down of Xiantao International Airport.
