Parts of the capital, Hanoi, remained flooded
  • Typhoon Kai-Tak in Vietnam
    -At least 27 people killed during a typhoon in northern provinces of Vietnam.
    -Nearly 12,000 houses damaged and 56,800 acres (23,000 hectares) of cropland flooded.
    -One killed in capital Hanoi when a tree fell on the car of a taxi driver.
    -Typhoon Kai-Tak killed two in China and destroyed some 4,200 homes in Guangdong province.

    Six killed by Typhoon Kai-Tak in Philippines
  • Lightning in Duluth, Minnesota
    -One killed and seven other injured after a lightning struck a private sailboat on Lake Superior off Minnesota Point.
    -A 9-year-old boy died after being airlifted to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center.
    -A week before 10 soldiers were injured at Fort Drum in New York after lightning struck their tent.
    -The disaster area was so remote that initial emergency responders had to get there by boat.

  • M 6.2 strong earthquake near the North Coast of New Guinea, PNG (@ 77 km depth) with epicenter located 104 km SSE of Angoram. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Mount Hagen, Wabag, Kundiawa, Madang, Goroka, Mendi and Wewak. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Lae, Bulolo and Wau.
    Update
    There are no reports of damage or injuries as the epicenter is too far away from the populated cities. Papua New Guinea is part of the "Pacific Ring of Fire," an area prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions because of friction between tectonic plates. A giant tsunami in 1998 killed more than 2,000 people near Aitape.

  • M 4.8 moderate earthquake in Assam, India with epicenter located 12 km SE of Dhekiajuli. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Dhing, Tezpur, Rangapara, and Nagaon.   • M 5.6 strong sea quake Off the Coast of Washington (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 253 km SW of Tofino (Canada). It will have just faintly felt by the people of Port Alberni, Courtenay, Campbell River, Victoria and Vancouver.

  • M 3.4 weak shallow earthquake in Southern California (@ 7 km depth) with epicenter located 14 km ENE from Ocotillo Wells. It will have well felt by the people of Salton City, Salton Sea Beach, El Centro and San Diego.

  • M 5.2 moderate shallow earthquake in Northern Sumatra, Indonesia (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 75 km SW of Banda Aceh. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Sabang, Sigli and Reuleuet.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Australia (River Murray), Botsawana (Savuti channel), Botswana (Selinda), Brazil (River Tocantins, River Madeira and River Amazon), China (River Mekong, River Huang He and River Brahmaputra), Colombia (River Japura, River Rio Negro and River Magdelena), Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopio, India, Mali,New Zealand, Senegal, Sudan and USA.
  • Flash floods in Dallas, United States
    -Strong thunderstorms and flooding collapsed two buildings in Dallas.
    -Several people rescued near Baylor University Medical Center.

  • Flash floods in Mississippi Gulf Coast
    -A flash flood watch through early Sunday afternoon for the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
    -Heavy downpour along with flooding is expected in Hancock, Jackson and Harrison counties.

Erupting Volcanoes: Popocatepetl, Fuego, Tungurahua, Villarrica, Etna, Erta Ale, Nyiragongo, Ol Doinyo Lengai, Sakurajima, Semeru, Batu Tara, Dukono, Manam, Ulawun, Yasur, Ambrym, Kilauea and Kizimen volcano.
  • Hawaii/Kilauea recent volcanic activity
    -During past 24 hours, seismic tremor levels were slightly elevated at the summit, low elsewhere; gas emissions were elevated.
    -Fourteen earthquakes were strong enough to be located beneath Kilauea volcano. Current aviation colour code is orange.

Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Hurricane Gordon
    -As of 01:00 UTC, Hurricane Gordon was located 630 km WSW of sao Miguel island Azores.
    -A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the eastern Azores.
    -Gordon is moving toward the east near 23 mph.
  • Tropical Storm Tembin
    -As of 01:00 UTC, TS Tembin was located  280 nm northeast of Manila, Philippines.
    -Heavy seas could be expected along Taiwan's southeastern coast and in the Bashi Channel between Taiwan and the Philippines from Monday.
  • Post-Tropical Cyclone Helene
    -As of 01:00 UTC, TC Helene was located 140 km WNW of Tampico Mexico.
    -It is expected to produce additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches across northeastern portions of Mexico from northern Veracruz into southern tamaulipas and eastern San Luis states.
