  • Typhoon Saola in Taiwan

    -About 40 people evacuated due to heavy rainfall and flooding from eastern parts of Taiwan caused by Typhoon Saola.
    -Following Officials in Datong Township (Yilan County),  people were evacuated from Yingshih Village which is a mudslide-prone area.
    -Heavy rainfall also caused flooding at the venue of the Yilan Folk Game Festival. The spot is located close to Dongshan River. Tianguer Bridge also reported to be closed.
    -According to the Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense, 47,845 soldiers, 387 water pumps, military vehicles and aircraft are on standby to meet any disaster relief contingencies.
    -As of 8:30pm (local time), the center of Saola was 330 km east of Oluanpi on the southern tip of the Hengchun Peninsula. Heavy rainfall along with flooding expected in Yilan County, New Taipei City, Taoyuan County, Hsinchu County and Miaoli County.
    -Typhoon Saola killed seven people in Philippines   and displaced more than 20,000 people.

  • M 5.0 moderate earthquake in Southern Xinjiang, China (@ 40 km depth) with epicenter located 47 km WNW of Arzak.  Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Kashi, At-Bashi and Naryn (Kyrgyzstan).

  • M 5.0 moderate earthquake in Minahasa, Sulawesi, Indonesia (@ 37 km depth) with epicenter located 26 km W of Tomohon. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Manado, Tondano, Bitung.

Ongoing Major Flash Floods: Australia (River Darling and River Murray), Brazil (River Tocantins, River San Fransisco and River Putamayo), China (River Mekong, River Yangtze and River Huang He), Colombia (River Japura and River Rio Negro) Ethiopia (river Blue Nile), Haiti, Indonesia, Madagascar, Nicaraguay, Nigeria (Benue), Pakistan (River Indus), Peru (River Ucayali and River Putamayo), Philippines, Sudan, Tanzania (River White Nile) and United States.
  • Flash floods in Marlborough, New Zealand
    -Several roads around Blenheim closed after heavy rain  and flooding in Marlborough area.
    -Residents at Pareora Huts, on the Pareora River south of Timaru evacuated.
    -Following Met Service more rainfall and flash floods expected today in eastern Marlborough and Canterbury north of Cheviot.
  • Flash floods in Colorado springs, Colorado
    -Flash floods and mudslides warning issued in and around the area burned by the Waldo Canyon wildfire.
    -Several houses in Green Mountain Falls reported to be damaged.

Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Shiveluch, Etna, Erta, Nyiragongo, Senmeru, Sakurajima, Batu Tara, Ulawun, Bagana and Yasur Volcano.
  • New Zealand/Mount Tongariro recent volcanic activity
    -Following GNS Science reports,  3-10 earthquake events are being recorded each day (very small).
    -The Volcanic Alert Level for Mt. Tongariro is 1. The Aviation Colour Code changed from Green to Yellow.

Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Typhoon Saola
    -As of 01:00 UTC, Typhoon Saola was located approximately 180 nm southeast of Taipei, Taiwan.
    -Heavy rainfall along with flooding expected in Yilan County, New Taipei City, Taoyuan County, Hsinchu County and Miaoli County.
  • Tropical Storm Damrey
    -As of 01:00 UTC, TS Damrey was located approximately 240 nm southeast of sasebo, Japan.

Natural Disaster News
  • Tornado in Accomack County, Virginia
    -Tornado reported in Accomack County of Virginia. Storms flooded parts of Virginia Beach.
    -A marine warning was also issued for the Eastern Shore area.
  • Heat wave in Seoul, South Korea
    -Heat wave warning issued in Seoul.
    -Temperature is expected to remain above 35 degrees Celsius for two or more consecutive days.
