Recent World Disasters

  • Flooding in Australia
    -Further three local government areas across NSW declared as Natural disaster area. The areas of Cobar, Jerilderie and Queanbeyan have been declared as a natural disaster area, taking the total number of natural disaster areas to 59
    -Flood evacuation order for 2000 residents is in affect for those in Hay and Maude
    -Following, Ministry of police and emergency, the current operational focus is around Hay, where an Evacuation Order remains in place. On the Lachlan River, planning and operational response for towns downstream of Forbes, including Bedgerebong, Condobolin, Willow Bend, Euabalong, Murrin Bridge and Lake Cargelligo are underway
    -Landslide at Ellis Beach cut-off the Captain Cook Highway yesterday
    -Flood warnings have been issued for coastal and adjacent inland catchments from Cairns to Bowen including the Tully and Murray Rivers (minor flooding) and the Bohle River (moderate flooding) and Don River (minor flooding)

    -The Murrumbidgee River at Hay peaked at 8.99 metres yesterday and is now falling slowly. Currently Murrumbidgee River has started to recede to 8.96 metres and now remains steady
  • Tornado Hits San Antonio, Texas
    -Tornado touched down about 25 miles southwest of San Antonio, damaging houses and flooding across the region
    -Six homes reported to be damaged so far in the Ted Williams and Ladd Road area in Southwest Bexar County
    -The National Weather Service had issued flash flood warnings for parts of Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana

  • M 7.6 extremely dangerous earthquake shakes Mexico today. The epicenter was located 52 km NE from Ometepec, Guerrero, Mexico. USGS updated magnitude from 7.9 to 7.6, though the intensity is enough to cause severe damage. Click for detail update report on this Mexican earthquake
  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake in Southern Greece (@ 61 km depth) with epicenter located 69 km NE of Chania. Weak shaking will have felt by the people of Khanía

  • M 6.2 strong earthquake in Papua, Indonesia (@ 67 km depth) with epicenter located 153 km SSW of Jayapura. Just 1,000 people will have felt strong shaking of MMI VI. Light shaking will have felt by the people of Abepura, Vanimo, Jayapura and Aitape. Weak shaking will have experienced across Kiunga, Ambunti and Porgera city

  • M 3.7 weak very shallow earthquake Offshore Oregon with epicenter located 30 km WNW from Yachats. About 47,000 people will have felt weak shaking of MMI II-III. Weak shaking will have felt by the people of  Waldport, Newport, Florence, Depoe Bay, Siletz, Dunes City, Lincoln Beach and Toledo

  • M 4.7 moderate earthquake in South Island of New Zealand (@ 128 km depth) with epicenter located 26 km NW Te anau. Light shaking will have felt in Queenstown. Weak shaking will have experienced as far as Invercargill, New Zealand

  • Alaska/Iliamna recent volcanic activity
    -Observers on the flight saw vigorous and plentiful fumaroles (gas vents) at the volcano's summit
    -Some deformation of the ice at the headwall of the Red Glacier on the east side of the summit was seen

Recent Flood Update
  • Flooding in Oklahoma, USA
    -State Highway 16 in Oklahoma closed due to heavy rainfall. Flash flooding also reported on some Oklahoma City and Norman roads
    -About 1,500 customers Oklahoma City were without power for whole day
    -A tornado reported in southwest of San Antonio (Texas) luckily causing no injuries

    -60 homes damaged following the storm with winds of up to 110 kilometres per hour
    -Damage also expected across the suburbs of Garbutt and Aitkenvale
    -Around 7,000 homes still without power
    -Also downpour of more than 300 millimetres in Townsville since 9:00am (AEST) yesterday with heavies across south of Cairns

  • Earthquake in Oklahoma!
    -People in Oklahoma reported experiencing an earthquake today BUT The National Weather Service office in Tulsa said the shaking was due to thunderstorm!
    -Official confirms there were no earthquakes recorded in the state either Monday night or Tuesday morning.
    -This is what Disaster Report received through felt report form
    Donna Shirley from Midtown Tulsa, OK: Felt it while sitting at my computer. Only lasted a few seconds. Thunderstorms and earthquakes!
    Kessie Noel from Tulsa Oklahoma: Felt like a really long and strong thunder. It did not move the ground like the last large Oklahoma quake of 5.7, just shook everything.
